Would they even need to close the line to build a tunnel?

I’m no civil engineer but I’d suggest yes they would.

Trains weigh a lot, so when you put holes through an embankment you probably don't want to have them going over it until all the supports are well in place.

You would carry out works at a weekend and nights when trains aren't running to prep for a longer closure at a weekend or Bank Holiday and slide a pre built tunnel in, so while a big job, not too disruptive to the railway as long as you have the room to pre build the tunnel

Maybe. But whilst not as big a bridge needed, I envisaged they would do something similar as turning this into this.

Took 96 hours to do apparently.

There would be lots of variables as to how long it would take, I would think you'd close the railway Friday night and re-open Monday morning, these are planned well in advance, even years sometimes so wouldn't be that disruptive to the railways

Surely half a dozen ceiling props will suffice?

Doesn’t sound like they will do anything until Parker gets his finger out.

Presume the next stage will be a public warning from Villa about Birmingham missing out on the Euros if no announcement from WM Mayor?

I guess Villa can still do their work as we have planning permission, so it’s not blocker for us, just that the station etc needs improvement…?

We are currently briefing every outlet that no work will be done on ground expansion until there is a transport upgrade.

I suspect this is going to become more overt as time presses!

But it is not a requirement of the planning permission? They are seriously going to march us up the hill again only to disappoint us again?

The more I think about it, the more I think that we need to stay at Villa Park. I don't think there's a ground in the country that generates the same atmosphere as Villa Park, and attacking the Holte End when we need a win is like playing with twelve men. None of the modern stadia have a good atmosphere, they're too generic. I think with sensible expansion we could over time get the capacity up to 55-60k which should be enough. Meanwhile we get to continue playing for the foreseeable future at the best ground in the country!

Agreed, "Villa are attacking the Tesla Terrace in the second half" wouldn't have the same ring to it, or generate the same atmosphere.
