50k would feel a bit modest? I know it's not just about doing it for the sake of it, but surely we could sell that out comfortably for most games.

Would make us 9th largest football stadium in England. I thought we'd be looking at plans to go to mid-50s? Even if it was to be phased.

Current capacities- give or take a few hundredx

Holte End – 13,500.
Trinity Road– 13,000.
Witton End - 7,000
Witton Lane - 9,500

Redbuil the Witton End - additional 8,000
Rebuild the Witton Lane - additional 10,000

That takes us to 60,000.

50k is a decent increase but agree it shouldn’t be the end goal.

Planning rules are becoming increasingly pro-development so by the time the north stand is completed, bedded in, developing the Doug or Trinity might be more feasible. Or even a move to the city centre.

🚨 Aston Villa will see the capacity of Villa Park boosted to more than 50,000 from current levels of 42,000, as part of a plan by Nassef Sawiris to invest around £100m more into the team. However, development is pending local officials moving ahead with expanding rail links.
@FT

Well, that won't be happening then.

Let’s see how Richard Parker pushes this.

Just build it FFS! If we can get in, we’ll get there.

Alright, alright….let me get me trowel.

Is there anymore info about the changes to the north stand, or is it the “filling in the sides” plan becoming formalised.

Come on stop it. We are not Small Heath that we can dream about going over 50K. We know our place in this city😩

I'd imagine the North being a similar size, plus corners to Witton and Trinity would make the total 52-53 easily. Then you can re do the Witton in time to go over £60k but you have to redisgn and sort the concourses as you go, so I can see the Trinity also getting a decent revamp if we stay in time. It's got to happen though and soon.

I just hope we don't get another Heck PR masterclass in killing the mood a couple of days before a season-defining match...

Surely he has learned his lesson? I have been very critical of Heck but announcing that we are expanding to 50,000 would go a long way to getting back onside with fans

Doesn’t sound like they will do anything until Parker gets his finger out.

Presume the next stage will be a public warning from Villa about Birmingham missing out on the Euros if no announcement from WM Mayor?

AFAIK, the requested upgrades are for a footpath tunnel to be placed under the railway at Station Road and for Witton to have exits down to the new bridge on either side (plus maybe bigger platforms). Anyone know how long it took to build the new bridge at over the Lichfield bypass during Covid times?

In theory a only Witton station will lose service (although no direct access from Aston to Walsall) as there is a spur line between Perry Barr / Hamstead that joins the track into the other side of New Street.

Yep a blockade of the line between Aston and Hamstead would make sense to get all the work done. Only drawback is that’s quite a busy line for freight as it uses the New St avoider which come from the airport direct to Aston. In addition New St is pretty much already full and I’m unsure if adding stuff in from the Smethwick end would work?
