I think he has still been very good generally since the Man U transfer debacle.  However for me he seems less exuberant and bombastic than he was .  Timings are everything we would need a replacement and obviously what £ we could get for him

It wouldn’t surprise me at all if he left in this transfer window.

I'm thinking similar having seen Unai's press conference. A real knife in the back if he wants to leave now, not that we have to sell him now but having our best season in years and to have a key player more focused on moving than winning games and picking up trophies with Villa this season. Hopefully Unai is just pissed off with the long list of injuries.

Hopefully. But we’ve seen this before both in general terms with AV and with Martinez not being available as linked with a move away and his head ‘not being right to play.’ To be honest, I adored the bloke, but since the summer, it’s very much been a case of waiting for the inevitable and him being just another, albeit good, player that will go probably having tarnished his cred.

He always said he'd stay as long as we keep developing. November, December 2024 we looked lost, going no where so I can see his thinking. Right now financially we've our hands tied behind our backs, injuries are killing us off, even Unai claiming we can't compete with the top 5, are we still developing?

We’re not being allowed to. But equally, we could have qualified for the champions league last season. There’s always a way to handle these things as well and Martinez handled it badly. Embarrassingly so.

We’ll never know (at least not until a book comes out in the next couple of years) what the players were told about being traded and moved on.

Something clearly went on and players, rightly looking after themselves, had to get some options on the table.

Emi has been here for 7 years, a move and a big payday, would make a lot of sense. It has to work for us too though. £30m from Inter in June could help us rebuild for our next CL adventure.

Am I right in thinking that alot of the supposed plyer-unrest at the end of last season was due to Martinez agitating for a move and pissing others off? - or was it more about Rashford's salary .... or a combo?

Agreed. He has given us his best years, but I do think it has to be a summer move; not now.

Agreed. Which makes this latest story coming from Italy just as bad. You'd think he'd have learned his lesson from the summer. His agent can speak to who he wants but keep it bloody quiet. It's the reason I think it's no accident the story being leaked and they want to do a deal this window. Again, I hope I'm wrong.

I think we’ll get a clearer idea by Sunday. With his injuries this season, I don’t remember him missing more than a game at a time. I think if he’s out on Sunday and his brother has been seen in Milan by a credible source, then it might start to brcome inevitable.
He’s the best keeper we’ve had in my lifetime, loved him, to the extent I havent really felt bitter about the summer. But if he’s angling for a move in January rather than the summer, with the destabilising impact, honestly, he feck right of with all that shite.

Be a shame if he left as he’s still a quality keeper, there’s been a few more mistakes this season but he’s made errors throughout his time here but the fantastic saves, his improvement in distribution and playing with his feet, as well as the winding up the opposition, has more than made up for it.

Even with his Yashin awards I still don’t think he’s got the recognition he’s fully deserved from media and fans in this country, at the time it always seemed to be Ederson and Alisson.

It looks like a parting of the waves will now happen through him wanting to move, he’s a top earner so it’s advantageous for us but he won’t be easy to replace and they’ll be a few moans of disapproval over the fee as I can’t see it being any higher then £20m.

The brother and agent report came from the same Italian journalist from Sky Sports Italia who broke the Malen to Roma story.

I don’t really care if he goes tbh.  If we could sell him and use the money on bolstering midfield and up front I’d do it.  Bizot for 20 odd games should be fine.  Obviously that goes massively tits up if he got injured.

He can go in the summer, but it would be borderline catastrophic to let him go in January.

I see Spurs have now also been linked with him.
