Unai Emery: "Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world. Before the penalty, I was sat down on the bench dreaming he would save it... and he did."

No wonder he's always bigging himself up as El Maestro, and talking about his superior insight.
Unai Emery: "Emiliano Martinez is the best goalkeeper in the world. Before the penalty, I was sat down on the bench dreaming he would save it... and he did."The penalty miss wasn’t just about how poor it was. It’s how Emi got into the head of his opponent in that moment and because of his immense aura. It has to be so intimidating to most players.

It was a shocking penalty, no pace and too close to the keeper, what possessed him to hit it so weakly? Martinez, that’s what. The aura has grown further.
Could be, although I don't think Emi's 'aura' had much to do with it. His record of saving penalties for us is pretty poor to be honest, think that was the first one he's saved in the last 10.

Yes that's context, Dean Smith was also big on it.Since debuting for Aston Villa in September 2020, Emiliano Martinez has saved four Premier League penalties with only Lukasz Fabianski , 5, saving more in this time!So Risso there's no reason whatsoever criticising Martinez penalty record. And that's not even taking into account the penalty shoot out v Lille.
