I think you misinterpreted what he said - he said selling Ollie was an option, but that he thought it was the right option. It would have solved PSR but compromised competitiveness which they didn’t want to do.

What is interesting is that there does seem to have been interest in Martinez the past two summers but it's never become a saga of will he won't he. He's said as much himself but it implies the man himself is very happy here.

I think the new contract would have a high release clause, and only for Champions League clubs would say we didn't requalify.

Though I do think if Martinez was sold, it would not have been this recent summer window but last summer, when he was apparently close to Manchester United.

Now it's clear league-wise we are better and as competitive as them. Martinez wouldn't move there.
I don't think unless it's PSR that Emi will leave next summer, and I sure protected ourselves with a hefty release clause.

I think Emery and Vidgany thought Luiz from the options available I dont think Monchi felt the same.
