Was the ball actually in play at the time? Definitely shouldn’t have been booked regardless, but thought it was him about to take a goal kick

That's what everyone was saying last night. Although Martinez didn't mention it himself when he was talking about it afterwards.

I didn't get that at all. Lucy has been great for all our games in Europe, more informed than any co-comm I have heard.
I may have misheard but didn’t she say Emi had balls of steel during the shootout?

Don't know if it been asked, but what was he actually booked for

First one was for time wasting, even though the ball was in play at the time.
The second one was because he was warned to stop winding up the crowd (when he shushed them) and the ref, who wasn't actually looking at him, heard the crowd booing and assumed he was winding them up again. He was actually looking for a ball so Ollie could take his penalty.
First time I heard that for the second,is that in the rule book?

No idea. That's the sequence of events. Whether any of it was good refereeing or not is another matter.

For all Emi's penalty shootout wins, his best one was still when he got in the head of both Ronaldo and Rat-face a couple of years ago. I think that was when he became a massive fan fave.

I think referees now see him as a great player to yellow card, like a trophy or a badge of honour. Neither of his cards were merited last night and the Lille keeper was as guilty of time wasting as Emi was.

You see, she's that thorough with her research that she walked by him with a magnet. It was obvious, anyway. I bet they're heavier than Nibbler's shits.

Watkins had to wait 2 minutes to take his penalty, whilst Lille looked for the ball. Then they have the cheek to call Emi a cheat for telling them to button it.

Yeah looking for the ball after one of their players had deliberately lashed it into the crowd.

Watching it again, that bloke was lucky not to hit Emi when he booted it. I don't think it was aimed at him, but it was out of control and Emi's reaction showed it wasn't too far away from him.

Am I too late with the news that Emi will miss the first leg of the Semi? That’s not good, putting it mildly.

Apparently UEFA say he's accrued three yellows since the group stage, hence the one game ban,

All three are in the two games against Lille. He got booked right before the whistle (timewasting?) in the first leg.

Three yellows between the group stage and the Semi's is a ban. He got three. So not sure why you think they made something up? Olympiacos is also missing a player for the first leg for similar card totting.

Olsen isn't as bad as people make him out to be. Emery will need to pick his team accordingly though, and if the defence and midfield do their job we'll be fine without Emi.

Emi’s dad wants him to go to a warmer city!
