Nah, I 100% believe the story that Unai wants to offload Emi and bring in Pickford.

It's not often I am right, very rarely in fact. Glad to be right against them lot today!

Olsen was good today and caught pretty much everything that came into the box, the only keeper to make a mistake today was the one that had just come back from a World Cup final.

Martínez looked noticeably subdued when he came over to the fans at the end. Also when his name was chanted,  he didn't turn to acknowledge, although I guess by then he may have been out of earshot.

Yeah, it's no wonder France lost. ;)

As good as Martinez is you can't spend the last two weeks partying in Argentina and then rock up and play in the premier league. How many times has he trained this week? I would imagine going from England to Qatar to Argentina to Qatar his body clock alone is all over the place. Seeing his own Instagram account he's very much enjoyed his time back home and there are hardly lots of pictures of him training, in the gym etc.

Emery is trying to set standards at the club, he's no fool he'll know who his best keeper is but he's shown confidence in Olsen when many of us (myself included) perhaps feel Olsen isn't good enough.

Martinez can be brought back in now which is advantageous because to me he would not have been up to anything today against the Spurs.
It wasn't appropriate for him to enter today.
Martinez is better equipped to enter a game at home with supporters behind him while Olsen was given more confidence.

Less likely to be taunted by fans and have the overwhelming majority back him
I just hope he keeps his standards high and stays focused.
After winning the world cup, returning to any game is a huge ask—possibly even bigger than returning after losing in this circumstances due to our standing in league.

I like to think that Emi will continue to play professional manner until the end of the season with perhaps a bit more humility.
Looking forward to see how he gets on.

It's a masterpiece by Emery because it demonstrates that Martinez isn't as untouchable as he thinks he is given all his antics, gives Olsen some assurance as well as all of us on the backup keeper, and gives Emi the will to return and demonstrate his character, which has already been established, but this is on another level because it's unprecedented circumstances.

Honestly what a load of bollocks.

Martinez has done nothing wrong. The manager has given him time off and you’re making out like he’s out there teaching him a lesson. He’s not. He’s our number one keeper and Olsen is the back up. It’s that simple. Stop making it into something that it just isn’t.

I agree, but Footy does make a valid point about maybe shielding Emi from fan reaction. He's been all over global news for weeks for his shithousery, so maybe letting him keep his head down for a little extra time while the nonsense dies down is a good idea.

Indeed Emi is, and has been, tremendous. He’ll be back in soon, but I’m pleased Olsen put in a solid display.

The manager said this was always the plan. He only got back this week. As much as we would like to him to back in goal much of our desperation was down to to how poorly Olsen has been. So the fact that Olsen didn’t concede 3 or more goals was a massive relief, and yes he played well. But it doesn’t take away from Emi simply being rested vs anything more conspiratorial. Same with Cash to a similar degree, although Ash’s displays make that less an issue

There's even a quote (already shared on this thread I believe) outrught stating that emi is our number 1.

The very last player on the face of planet earth who needs sheltering from fan reaction is Emi Martinez.
