I don't know why Mbappe's getting stick. Have I missed something?

Me neither.

Because he’s the best player on the planet. Jealousy on full display

From the Argentina team, though. Why is Emi going about carrying a doll with Mbappe's face on?

Seems like something personal, but I'm not aware of what it might be.

He’s been nothing but humble since coming to Villa. In fact he’s been a model professional in every way on and off the pitch for us. I don’t recall anyone complaining when he called out Ronaldo and Fernandes up at Man U causing the rat faced twat to sky the penalty. He‘s having fun with having reached the absolute pinnacle of his career. As are the other Argentina players. And quite frankly as long as the people he appeals to love him; us and Argentina fans, I don’t think he gives a flying fuck about anyone else.

Didn't Mbappe slag of the Argentinian league prior to the WC?  Said is was substandard or words to that effect.

Mbappe said that South American football wasn't on the same level as European football, where they play elite matches all the time (League of Nations etc ) and that is why Europeans have won all the  recent World Cups. This annoyed the Argentinians, and Martinez is quoted as saying Mbappe knows nothing about South America, in Europe they play on perfect surfaces and only have to travel 50km to get to the game whereas we have to go to La Paz where you can't breathe or Chili and play in 30⁰ heat...*

Mbappe is young and his comments have come back to haunt him. Martinez is not coming over as the most elegant of players, indeed it's all quite vulgar and tasteless. However, It is very funny and I can let him off because he plays for us.

*Both Mbappe and Martinez fail to acknowledge that all but the reserve keeper, Armani (River Plate) and Almado the forward (Atlanta United) play in the European leagues but I think Mbappe's comments were in the context of international football.

I think Emi has been slightly OTT and needs to stop “smoking” but I do love an absolute annoying bastard playing for us. Mbappe on the other hand and we must remember this, whilst being an awesome footballer is still only 23 so entitled to an odd stupid comment.
It’s all ok and no one needs to get upset about it.

I thought it was quite funny given the context of the comments, and I doubt many people on here bar maybe Flin5tone and Footy-Vill* would be criticising him for it if he did a similar thing following Villa winning the CL Final against PSG following a comment from Mbappe suggesting Villa weren't on the same level as PSG.

* Footy: nothing meant by that other than you're consistent with your views on that type of thing, which I totally respect. You're one of the few people whose views on Jack Grealish haven't changed since *that* summer for example.

I like what Emi is doing. We've all become too precious, he's won the world cup and he's going fuck you Donatello, sorry Kylian shove your comments up your arse. He's acting like a fan would. Good luck to him 😉

And another thing. On his return, make him team captain. Yes he's a shithouse but he's our shithouse.

The shithouse is ours
The shithouse is ours
Emi Martinez
The shithouse is ours

Thanks for this context. It does seem to have got a bit of over the top, I saw some videos of people with Mbappe's face drawn on a coffin and another of what looked like an effigy being hanged. Not necessarily saying those responsible are racists... but I'm not saying they're not, either. Not a good look.

I'm told it is possible to win at something and not be an arse about it.

Don't think it's anything racist, just that Mbappe is their star man, he scored four goals and still lost. Fans of winners will eat that shit down as taunting material.

I wasn't on about the Martinez thing being racist, but the video I saw of someone in Buenos Aires lynching an Mbappe effigy has racist overtones.

I like his shithousing on the pitch.  The minutes silence thing and the doll thing was small time really.
