He's just above Bozzie for me as the best i've seen (since late eighties). I know some will disagree but i think he's the first undoubted world class player we've had since the trio of McGrath/Platt/Yorke, although we have had some that haven't been too far off since then.

Man Utd might want competition for DeGea, but he's only 32 and there's no way Emi will go anywhere he's not clear first choice.

They'd be my main concern, particularly if they squeak back into the Champions League.

By all accounts De Gea is off in the summer, as they don't want to keep paying him the crazy numbers they've been paying him up to now and he's out of contract. So they'll almost certainly be looking for a new first-choice keeper.

Plus they're more than happy chucking £80m or so around, and after this winter he's actually very marketable for their noodle and pet food partners (which is obviously one of the more important things for them).

I guess when you've won the one competition that you really wanted to win, you need to find another thing to strive for... Let's hope it's the league with us.

I agree Chris, the Cutler thing is a concern, though one suspects he'll know and like Emery and Garcia from their time at Arsenal.

What an impressive man Neil Cutler is.

He could easily get a job as a pundit.
Talks very, very, well and is knowledgeable with it.

Linked with Bayern today too. Looks like we'll be dealing with rumours galore now.

There's no way Bayern are chucking £80m at a goalkeeper.

There'll be a Man Utd link soon, and probably a Spurs one.

Nobody else who could spend the money really needs him.

Agree.  He's just signed a long contract but I guess we can't prevent papers filling their pages with print and internet for clicks.

As always, it'll come down to the player. If he decides he absolutely wants Champions League football, he'll be gone.

Given what Neil Cutler said I don’t think he’ll be going anywhere

It's left Rome.

That's quite the detour, why did it go to Rome?
All roads lead there, apparently.

Man U would be my worry too, but I think they'd need to be in the Champions League.

They'd also need to be willing to pay a genuinely astronomical amount of money. I don't think we're asking for less than a world record at this point, and to pay that for a keeper generally speaking a megasuperhyperwowzer-club would have to be desperate. Looking around the landscape, I don't see which club that would be to be honest.

Not really related, but the talk of World record fees made me check the list (Kepo is top, Alisson second if you were interested). I note that Buffon is still playing, back at his old club Parma in Serie B. He's 45 in January and has signed a contract until the end of next season.

I'm amazed at the faux-outrage amongst other fans about Emi's antics. I've had Leeds and Chelsea fans contact me about 'the cheat'.
Always good to see the envy expressed in these comments: I imagine he might replace Mings as the Villa player opposing fans will jeer.

Between him, Shilton, Stanley Matthews, and Billy Walker they've played at least 1 professional game every season since the 1st world war ended.

To see the Argentinian Pope perhaps? I wonder what he would have said…….?
