Yes that's a real bugbear of mine as well. Why can't they get 'Mar-teen-ez' correct? It really isn't difficult. That's why it is written Martínez; nobody gets Benítez wrong and it's the same thing with the accent on the 'i'.

For what it's worth, my natively Spanish-speaking wife regularly compliments the pronunciation when she hears Martinez on tv. She complains when anybody says Mar-teen-ez.

Have you tried telling her she's wrong?

A mate I play music and football (and a goalie too!) with is Argentinian and he says Mar-teen-eth.

Argentinians speak a bastardised version of Spanish at the best of times e.g. Vos? ::)

A bit weird that a current PL player (Ben Foster) is already embracing the podcast/youtube-media career. Hope Hodgson knocks it on the head and tells him to behave himself. Plenty of time for that, sunshine.

Second admonishment of Foster is he, like his media pals, mispronounce Emi's surname, with the stress in the wrong place. Wish Emi had put him right.

I think his Fozcast ones are pretty good, I prefer them to Peter Crouch’s.  The goalkeeper-techy one with Neil Cutler and Boaz Myhill was very good.

Ben comes across as a decent skin, in fairness.

Wind up a Latina...yeah, I've done that before, never again.

Maybe it's a regional thing, she's from PR and they pronounce 'll' weird too !

Well my wife got home and I mentioned it in passing and she is most definitely NOT wrong with the pronunciation, but apparently I am.

I must have misheard her because she was mortified and assured me that it is indeed Mar-teen-ez like you guys were saying...mi culpa !

He didn't have a thing to do all game but after catching their last cross in the 95th minute he punched the air and high fived Mings. They wanted that clean sheet, different mentality.

He's an absolute born winner.

I love him. I can't believe he couldn't get a game at Arsenal.

Him and, on evidence so far, Chambers. Thanks Arsenal.

I think Gerrard was telling him that when he ran up to celebrate Chambers goal. Gerrard stopped him and told him to buck up.
