You know what I love about him, he can undoubtably play out from the back but first and foremost he is a keeper. Liverpool and Man City payed £95m between them on keepers that could first and foremost play out from the back.

I wouldn't swap him for anybody in the League.

I don't agree on Alisson, he's a fantastic goalkeeper in all ways and, like Emi for us, their defenders all play better with him in because of the confidence he inspires.

I havent read through all pages on this thread, so apologies if repeating anything. Spink was the first keeper I saw play live down the villa, followed by Kevin Poole, back to Spink then Bosnich  I loved Bozzie for the cocksure nature of him and his shot stopping. Post Spink and Bosnich, I can only reallybthibk of Friedal who has been really impressive.
14 games is nothing in the grand scale, of things and we don't know how it will pan out in the long term, but so far he is fast becoming my favourite villa keeper. Shot stopping, calmness, he actually organises the defence and catches crosses, he oozes confidence and creates team spirit, and also seems from the outside looking in, a really nice bloke.
Also, his long passing to Grealish and others is so accurate, just the buy off he season so far.

Martinez seems to be the complete keeper.  Great stopper, and commands his area superbly. I also like his decision making, in a split second he decides whether to launch a quick attack, or wait until players have got into position.

His distribution is excellent.

Good with both feet as well, which makes a massive difference. I don't miss the days of watching in terror as the ball rolls back to our keeper's 'wrong' foot.

I used to dread the ball rolling back to Bosnich's stronger foot.

I still find it kind of remarkable that his breakout only came last year. He’s a bloody brilliant player.

Hard to believe this guy was a backup keeper for so many years. He looks the best keeper in the division. Doesn't seem to have a single weakness and a playmaker at the back with both feet.

The way he came through a crowd of players to emerge with the ball and immediately launch it fifty yards straight to a Villa player was majestic. Can't think of another Villa goalkeeper who could have done that this century.

If we get an injury crisis he could even do a job centre-half, IMO.

Argentina's first two goalkeepers must be fucking amazing if he's third choice.
