Only in Brum's local paper, would they have an article saying "Man U Fans Rage as Martinez Save Allowed to Stand by VAR."

Re the comment about hospital balls I think they’re perfectly acceptable at Arsenal we just haven’t got used to it at all because we are used to Nylands calamities.

He’s a competent keeper with a swagger about him.

How very strange.

Love having an arrogant Argie back there.

Certainly better than a nervous Norwegian.

Certainly better than a nervous Norwegian.

And a calamitous Croatian.

He looked tremendously assured and calm. Those are great compliments for a keeper. It was almost secondary to his penalty save which was excellent.

Spot on. Just gave off that feeling/aura of a safe 'keeper that I didn't realise was missing till tonight.

Yep, felt totally assured with him there.

Apologies, a very assured Argentinian.

For those slightly more sensitive.

Because the term “tenacious Scot” used for SJM caused utter uproar.

Sedulous Scot has a much better ring to it.

Think uncalled for saying arrogant and bringing nationality into it.

I said when he signed that he's a man of integrity and class . He take to all our hearts .

And well played to those who could see that the gold keeper situatin needed addresseding from the outset
A really composed debut topped off by that penalty save.

One note of annoyance was the commentator and Alan Smith mispronouncing his name. It's pronounced Mar-teen-ez not Martin-ez. It's not difficult!
Its very difficult for English speaker  actually because its
pronounced ES not ez
S  not Z.
I know it's pedantic, but it's not difficult for an English speaker to get it right - just like Rafa Benítez is pronounced Ben-eet-ez. Martínez has an accent on the I for a reason.

I was highlighting the incorrect  emphasis on the first syllable rather then the ending. However,  an S is ok for a Latin American, though a Spanish person would say a soft TH for the Z.

However,  again neither S nor TH is at all difficult for an English speaker to say.

Being married to a Spanish woman for a good number of years, it's one thing I do know. Language lesson over.
