Unless he says anything or someone there says anything about him we'll never know what Emi was doing during the offensive song. He may be conducting it, he may hate it, we just won't know. So I don't see how unless things change he will be open to any kind of punishment.
I think this is the middle an both ends of it.

Let's just hope he doesn't turn up in blackface then.

Racism is racism - those that talk about nuances just don’t get it, and feed the problem.

The sport is riddled with racism and until we all agree there can be zero tolerance for it, it won’t go away.

Hmm. I'm curious as to what "zero tolerance" entails here.

Cancel Martinez's contract if he is shown to be singing the song? If he's not singing but clapping along? Not singing along or clapping but being there and not calling it out? Presumably these are all bad, but different degrees of bad, no?

Not cancel his contract for any of the above and just fine him? Just say that it's all bad and we're terribly disappointed and leave it at that?

What's the best way for the club to demonstrate zero tolerance?

Yup, to return the favour from the politics thread this nails it for me. Zero tolerence for anything is a very easy slogan that leads to very difficult decisions. Enzo will be punished and will deserve it, he clearly knows that himself and has rushed out an apology. If anyone else is clearly joining in and can be seen doing so then I suspect they'll face the same punishment. What can't (and won't) happen is anyone who happened to be on the bus with him gets villified with no evidence.

Right now there's absolutely nothing on any video that suggests Emi has done anything wrong and so long as that is the situation he has nothing to answer for.

I say this not to defend the poster in question, but clearly there are degrees of racism. Your nan talking about ordering a 'ch*nkie' is racist, but it's clearly not racist to the same degree as Tommy Robinson's entire career, is it?
Not sure if you are serious here mate but yes. Hearing phrases like “is it warm enough for you” from an old lady in my younger days, a colleague/acquaintance saying “but you’re not Indian at all”  a work place supervisor saying “we need more of your sort of people here”  is in my mind racist but totally different from a ****** in Holte End telling me “Fuck off I am not having a Paki stand next to me”.

I am being serious, and that's exactly what I meant.

There is obviously a culture in the squad that means this is allowed to happen and not be challenged. Who knows how many players were too cowardly to oppose it and how many more were too cowardly to stare at their shoes silently in disgust. From the military to football squads, if you put a close knit group of hyped up young men in a small space there will be few who have the moral courage to stand up to it. Otherwise decent people end up going along with deplorable behaviour. My fear is that Emi is in that category. They probably all were. As for the nonsense from a couple of posters around, ‘it’s not really racism’… what bollocks.

Yes, absolute bollocks. Then there’s the one(s) who don’t care about racism because they’re not black or something.

Having read the translation of what they were singing, it’s really not being snowflake woke to say that is straightforward racism.
