Of course it’s because he’s back from injury and nothing to do with him going to Dublin.

Martinez is the rightful captain against Leicester and we have to believes there is a chance for a clean sheet.
Though unofficially, I believe he'll be made captain for the remainder of the season because Emery considers McGinn not to be among his starting eleven as he said today

Martinez is the best choice, and I advocated for that during the summer, but Gerrard made the wrong decision by not selecting a World Cup champion, despite the fact that both he and Young possess the qualities of a captain.
They were all vice, as was Carlos (instead of Mings)
Anyway, I'm hoping Martinez will deliver another masterclass tomorrow without as many needless antics

Vamos Martinez!

I think we have the same opinion on McGinn mate, and of the current first team I think he's probably the least suited to the style of football Emery wants to play long term. But his comments about McGinn being out of the first 11 today were really only to do with the fact that McGinn has come back earlier than expected from an injury and thus isn't completely match fit. I don't think they were intended to convey anything deeper than that. Emery doesn't strike me as the sort of person to make negative comments about players in the press, that was more Gerrard's vibe.

Agree I also don't think he makes negative comments. Though I saw it as a statement of honesty regards who should be selected.

Yes, because he's just back from an injury.

His faffing around at the back really doesn’t do us any favours.

First goal was his fault, for me.

Emery is working out which of his players can play in this system and which cannot.
I've always said with the ball at his feet and to build up play Martinez cannot do that as effectively as Emery would like.

For all his quality Martinez will have to really step up and learn to adapt or the parting of the ways will occur especially if there is continuing failure to be able to play the ball out. We may not like this but it's the truth of Emery style and belief on how he wants to play football.

A parting of the ways of the best keeper in the world?  Who is going to come to us realistically that is better at this passing you want to see - Donna Summer?  Allison?  The bloke with the tattoo on his neck?

It is ludicrous to think Emery will sell the best keeper in the world because he might not be the best with the ball at his feet.

There's an after-match interview with him on the OS in which he looks properly gutted.

Good. I hope that pass to Kamara is keeping him awake at nights!
