See, I just can't get on board with the response to my complaint to the restaurant manager that there was rat piss on my lunch being, 'well, there's d0gshit on the salad at the place next door'.

So what you're saying is that you'd rather chance your arm with a d0gshit salad.

I like Boozey's take: thoughtful and empathic; not seeking to criticise.
And here's another thought: who, over these last 7-8 years, might we have had as a central striker that would have served us so well? - not just in terms of on-pitch contribution but also as a club ambassador. I meet many fans of other clubs who praise Ollie and see him as emblematic of our journey from mediocre second-tier to comfortable Chumps League level.
All of which is not to say that his days are not numbered: I think he'll head off to a newly-promoted team in the summer (unless he has an unlikely England epiphany), and he'll leave with enormous fondness and kudos from most people associated with the club.
Honestly, no-one here has anything but praise for Ollie Watkins' service to the club, work-ethic, professionalism OR ability throughout his time at Villa. His career is an example to anyone who aspires to better themselves. He's been a wonderful player... Just not so much nowadays.

He's been great for us but he's starting to look like the kind of striker that West Ham would sign

I think about 25 may be the most we could eek out of a sale. Don't see it getting close to 40 myself.

I did say eek out 25, maybe with bonuses. I know you'd take half a curly wurly and a packet of lovehearts.

If we sell Watkins, I'd wager he'll bring more to his next club than any striker we've sold in the PL era bar Yorke - and even then, only for two years at Man Utd, who were one of the two best teams in the country with or without him.

I'm not sure who these mythical strikers are that some hark back to who were so much better for us than Watkins that render his contribution to the club a subject of mockery.

The only ones I see in my lifetime are based not on things they did for Villa; only on things they might have, but didn't.

Edit: however, just to be clear, and based on recent performances, I would be starting Tammy for the next few games, and bringing Ollie on to use his running against tired legs. His performances do not justify a starting place right now.

Would you want us to pay £25m for him (he's 30, and getting worse)?

Pro-rata'd for quality/age, £25m isn't much more than what they gave us for Danny Ings.

Aside from the drop in goals the real concern with Watkins is he’s got 9 fewer assists than this time last season. He went from top of the assist charts to the very bottom. He has to be carrying an injury.

That superb half hour cameo against Chelsea away was prime Ollie Watkins and showed me that he is a great asset to bring off the bench for 30 mins. However, it's obvious he's not going to settle for that and frankly, when he's started games this season he's been pretty poor.

He's been a great buy for the club but it's time to sell in summer, it'll be good for him and the club. As for price, 20 million plus an add on or two would seem reasonable.

There's been plenty of villa players we've loved but known when it's time to go, Watkins is no different.

Has been brilliant servant for club but has reached his 'sell by' date.

20 million plus Ollie Watkins for Igor Thiago (Brentford) might be the way forward.
