7 goals in his last 10 PL games

I put it in the match thread, but it has been swallowed up. Does that make him the form goalscorer in the Premier League?

"You see [insert player] the other day, do you think his best moment was the goal he scored?"

"Yes"

"Woah!"

True, the goal is always the best bit. But there were many moments of brilliance. Other than the goal what was your favourite?

The shot that led to the corner. Great strike 😎.

I don't even think Ollie has been that good lately and have said as much, but your reaction is just daft. Either the stats matter or they don't.

7 in 10 is a great record yes.

What's the issue?

Great recent record, great goal today, but was also another shit performance.

Which bit is wrong?

So, genuinely - when people were saying he was playing well in spite of the lack of goals, you said that wasn't good enough. Will you acknowledge that he has at least inverted the issue now (goals without performances), and say which would you prefer he do: play well or score goals?

My issue before was that regardless of whether he played well or not, he simply didn't score enough goals.

This season, he has 8 goals in 32, which has hardly inverted the issue.

If he keeps a ratio of 7 in 10 up to the end of next season, then I'll say he's inverted the issue and as the striker's job is primarily to score goals, I will have no complaints. I want him to score goals.

You cannot possibly think this is unreasonable.

Disappointing, flunking the question, moving the goalposts. Bit of a Starmer answer that, Smirk.

He'll almost certainly become only the 12th player to score 100 goals for Villa, and most likely he'll end the season 10th on our all time list.

What are your thoughts on his form, in isolation, in the last 10 games, Smirk? 😶‍🌫️

No he’s “shot” I think…

I diverge from Smirker in that I don't really care whether he scores the odd goal (in my analysis of the player, I care deeply that we score goals). He's just not a very good footballer.

It was answered. You asked would I rather he play well or score goals.

"I want him to score goals."

There's your answer.

10 games isn't enough of a sample size to show he's consistent. That's why I said do it until the end of next season.

What are your thoughts on his form, in isolation, in the last 10 games, Smirk? 😶‍🌫️

That'd already been answered as well. His goal record has been fine.

He is unusually shaky with his feet for a player with his level of movement, tactical intelligence etc.

Smirk - gotcha, fair enough!

Yeah, I've said something about his technique before. When he's out of form it makes him look like a carthorse. When he's confident and scoring it doesn't matter so much.

He's definitely not technically gifted (in relation, obviously), there are much better players out there in that regard.

Watkins main issue is that he always looks to get the ball onto his right foot.

But he's a key component of the best side we've had in 25 years.

And if you look across his career with us he heavily leans towards the latter.

This is the most consistent Villa side since 1928/29-1932/33 and Ollie is a very important part of that.
