He isn't shit/hasn't been shit for 18 months.

He's likely carrying an injury and out of form.

If he was contributing his normal goal every 2.5 games we might well be top of the league.

He isn't and we aren't.

if we are going to genuinely challenge, he's either got to hit a good run of form (which he has in the past) or we need to get an alternative in January if PSR permits.

I don't see that it's particularly complicated.

Less of the rationalism please. Footballer’s are either shit or brilliant.

I've never said he's shit.

I know for some it's hard to accept criticism of our Sacred Cow but there's no need to put words in my mouth.

If he's carrying a knock, and it's something that can get better with proper rest, it would be great to bring an experienced forward in early Jan, so we can take him out of the firing line and have him back firing in Feb/March for the run-in.

Only the club knows what he can/can't manage, but with the amount of player data they have these days, I can't imagine for one moment they can't see the on-pitch limitations he currently has.  He needs help, he needs to sort his injury out - for him and for the team.

Confirming that you believe someone has been shit for 18months and then claiming a few posts you haven't said they're shit is a new low for the thread. It's the sort of mealy-mouthed technicality that is relied on by the worst of online bullshitters.

He's been shit for 18 months isn't the same as saying he is shit.

Watkins Worshippers now just completely making things up.

I see the problem: he's never been shit for Villa in the past and he's not shit now. He's presently not good enough when it comes to scoring goals, and hasn't been for a fair while. But he isn't and never has been shit.

He goalscoring over the past 18 months definitely has been. Not even debatable tbh.

Olli gets a lot of leeway from his previous exploits with us, which is fair enough.  However long spells not scoring will always bring criticism, but the worst will be himself.  We have to find an alternative.  I don’t think the upcoming window is going to produce the striker we need.  I think it will be soldier on with fingers crossed. Maybe he can turn his form around.

This is becoming rather like Trump's America.

I have no desire to become one of the back-and-forth on this thread, and you were humble enough to credit him the other week, but as stated previously, if you didn't appear to enjoy Ollie's failings, I don't think anybody would be here defending his output.

Rather than any 'sacred cow' or 'Watkins worshippers' scenario, I just think there are posters who are motivated to defend our PL record goalscorer against someone who seems to be emotionally invested in him failing.
