I think the problem here is that, for whatever reason, Smirker has decided that he was actually never good, and that this is FINALLY being REVEALED, like the Epstein files. Whereas what's actually happening is that he's been very good, but currently is struggling.

He's always been limited in terms of raw talent, but he compensated with working (like fuck!), running and getting in the right positions to miss. If he can't do that, we're back to his talent...

I think the dieal situation right now would be for Malen to get a few games and let Watkins work out whatever the problem is because I don't believe he's "done" at this level as some seem to be suggesting, he's just clearly not in a good place right now, whether that's just form/mentality or is an underlying injury doesn't really matter. It's just a shame that we haven't been able to get Guessand up to speed as an alternative for the 'fight' bcause that's just not Malens game and is why he's struggled when he's started games.

More seriously, he's not getting many opportunities so you can expect the goals to dry up. He's never been clinical so to expect him to put away every chance he gets is ridiculous. Of course a goal wouldn't hurt but he's doing his best and that's all you can ask.

Easy to criticise him but we look blunt most of the time in attack and our crosses into the box can sometimes take days to arrive. Across the whole team there's room for improvement just some areas need more than others. I'd start Watkins against Wolves. He's always been feast or famine and his hunger strike has to end at some point. Villa Park against relegated Wolves seems an ideal place to have a big scoff.

I'd start Malen and Watkins together against Wolves. We can take the pressure off Guessland too by bringing him off the bench when we're 4 or 5 up and let him play the second half. ;)

So the latest excuse is after an international break that he wasn't even selected for, he already needs a rest after playing 60 mins, bloody hell I've heard it all now 😂

It's really sad that you'd rather be right than talking about what can be done to get him back into form. You should probably just take a break from the thread for a while.

That’s a good summary of the situation. The fact is that we’re winning games, but he’s not getting many chances. He is clearly out of form, but I also don’t think we’re playing to his strengths right now. I don’t know which of these two things comes first; whether he’s out of form because we’re not creating chances for him, or whether we’re not creating chances for him because he’s out of form. The idea that our EPL record goal scorer has never been any good, or wasn’t any good during the season that we qualified for the UCL, is extreme revisionism.

I think your taking that out of context. Scrolling through the thread, most people seem to be saying if he is carrying an injury he needs a rest, but I guess you see/read things the way you want to.
Monty’s point was probably most accurate earlier, you revising the past so that the narrative is that Ollies always been shit. I guess even a broken clock and all that.

I think this is a bit harsh, but I agree with the basics. He's never exactly been Ferran Torres with his touch, but he's been aggressive, athletic, and hungry to learn (one underrated thing about him is his tactical strength). But he's in one of those 'nothing works' phases, in which he's still working hard but with his head down, which makes him get more frustrated, less able to stay in the zone, all that round and round in a vicious cycle.

I agree with your basics too, but I don't see what's harsh? The 'positions to miss' thing? Well, he didn't miss them all! And I'm grateful for that.

Ha! I just think he's a bit more talented than you do. Like I say, not exactly Bernardo Silva, but better than he's looking now. It's in his head as much as his feet right now.

We've won 9 of the last 11, are 4th, and yet some want to spend their Sunday evening posting endlessly about how shit one of our players is.
