If Ollie Watkins invaded Ukraine there are people on this website who’d insist NATO provoked him. Obviously, if Watkins tried to invade Ukraine he’d end up in Minsk, but the work he’d do away from the invasion would be invaluable.

Go and learn what 'hypocrisy' means.

Go and watch some football then come back when you understand it.

It is hypocritical to use his supposed excellent creativity as a defence for his shit goalscoring and then blame a lack of creativity for his shit goalscoring.

It's also hypocritical to say he needs competition to defend his shit form and then blame the presence of Ings, Duran and Rashford for his shit form.

Every excuse in the book is made for this footballer.

It's inconsistent, not hypocritical.

Agree mate it's ridiculous.

14 games 1 goal and people are still making excuses.

Also agree with everything LeeB is saying.

I think he's not getting enough chances, he's got the same problems as everyone else with not making enough right now, and his finishing percentage has always been a bit on the low side (though not, as a matter of statistical fact, as bad as some make out).

In other words - he's not playing very well, but the goals thing is not currently all his fault.

we're not creating anywhere near enough - wonder if Harvey Elliott is a better option.

The hypocrisy surrounding this player is ridiculous.

I say he doesn't score enough goals and people say "but he gets a lot of assists!"

Well how many of those has he got this season? He is also part of that problem.

Last time I checked he was also allowed to create chances for others.

Nice bit of sidestepping, now that you can’t blame him for missing chances because we’re not making any.

He missed a sitter in the last game.

He misses loads because he just isn't a good finisher.

Absolutely no sidestepping whatsoever.

Why aren't we creating chances with world class assister Ollie Watkins still playing? He gets so many assists and offers so much more than goals doesn't he? Where are the assists?

As forwards go his world class in terms of assist output. He’s having a tough season, quite a number of the forwards are.

What’s weird is you very clearly actively prefer it if he’s not playing well.

Did he? Was that the ball he was trying to get to ahead of Donnarumma? If that is what we are classing as "sitters", we must be the most creative team in the league.

He did make the space and the pass for Rogers, of course if Rogers hits the post instead of scoring it would be a good assist. But as with Villa this season, we definitely are not creating at any level and are normally relying on shots from outside the box going in. This is definitely because Watkins is not playing as well but is also down to us not having the playmakers either.

Whatever you think of Watkins, the fact remains, he's shown his quality and consistency over the best part of 5 consecutive seasons.

Maybe there's an element of decline or staleness or that we've been starving him of chances. Whatever it is, he's earned the right to be given time to come good.

We don't currently have any other option.

Also as a more general point Smirker you’re going to be crushingly disappointed by most players if you think Watkins hasn’t been an excellent forward for us.
