Good goal last night from him. 2 in 2 from pre-season so far. (1 goal for every 45 mins I think).

Good. Now let's see him do it for a season.

I dunno, he's not managed the two-goals-per-game average that Smirker feels he should be providing just yet.

Not even Dixie Dean managed that. Closest he got was a 1.5 goals a game. Probably an average player for Smirker's tastes though.

Dean has a better record than him.

I can't find a stat for how many games he played  that season but it comes out about 1.17 assuming all 42.

Edit: Dean played 39 games apparently with 60 goals, Pongo was 49goal  in assumed 42. To beat Dean on goals/game he would need to have played only about 30.

Pongo played 39 league games in 30/31. Tends to be forgotten because of the 49 Pongo scored but Houghton scored 30 in 41 league games that season as well.

49 in 40 games was his best, so 1.225 per game that season. (Ignore the fact that it says "Premier League").

https://www.worldfootball.net/player_summary/pongo-waring/eng-premier-league/2/

From a separate source I can see that he played in both our cup games that season, scoring one goal. So total 50 in 42 games, 1.19 per game.

http://home.aland.net/bolin.jakobsson/villamatches/

Dixie Dean's best was 60 in 39 league games, or 63 in 41 including the cup. 1.537 per game.

Ah yes, I must have skim-read "Walker" as "Waring". Amended.
