You’re right, especially if you ignore all the goals he’s scored.

17 goals in 54 apps last season. 16 goals in 40 apps twice and 11 in 36 once.

That's not even close to being good.

As I say, you’re correct. We should just get one of those many players that are better. We don’t need to name any though, we’re not scouts.

Exactly the same league ratio as the notoriously not good enough Peter Withe too.

What does he have a longstanding, proven record of? It certainly isn't goalscoring, he's had one good season in 5 in that regard.

He’s our all time leading premier league goal scorer ffs.

Arsenalian levels of entitlement to think we are going to click our fingers and get a better player than Watkins. Insane how some people decided not to rate him and then refuse to change their opinions to match the evidence.

Watkins infuriates me on occasions because he really should be a 20+-goal/year player, but to think we are going to go out and find better who we can plug in and expect to replicate Watkins' production is crazy.

Exactly.
With the restrictions we're under its complete madness to consider selling and expecting to replace him with a ready to go signing.
Im getting Arsenal entitled vibes on here these days..

Indeed, and it’s always sensible to ignore the fact that he’s one of the top end forwards for contributions. Why would you want to look at the actual value the player brings when assessing them.

Smirker is generally reasonable but is very blinkered when it comes to Ollie.

Some of you know that I don't rate Watkins very highly. There's just something of the purist in me that can't accept that an elite footballer can do what he's done whilst not having a first touch. I don't think you ought to be allowed on the pitch if you don't have a first touch.

I'm a bit like one of those twats who liked guitar music in the 80s and moaned about the advent of dance music 'because they're not even playing their instruments'. For the avoidance of doubt, I hate those people.

So I won't mourn his departure, if he goes, but it's insane to question his numbers and his contribution to our getting to wherever we are. And £40m is taking the piss, based on those numbers, but I fear that - if we do want to sell him - we won't be getting much more for him because I suspect (and my suspicion is based on no evidence at all, so you'd better listen) that other clubs won't meet our valuation because he's not, to the naked eye, a very good footballer.

I appreciate the compliment (kind of).  8)
