I agree that £40m is no use to us, but it might be that the boss is desperate for a new face or two, and it does look like that ain't happening without selling a big-hitter. The market for Martinez seems to have dried up and we're trying to get Rogers to sign a new contract. Something's got to give*.

*Something may not, in fact, have to give.

If we were to sell him for £40m it not only is of very little use, but it also very clearly says “Aston Villa can’t compete”. That would be a terrible look in terms of retaining or attracting players. The only way for it to work is if there is a value to him and they pretty significantly overpay.

Although this is seemingly being played out by the United obsessed media to destabilise him, and i know we should not pander to gossip with no suggested supporting information that they have actually made a bid but I do wish we would tell them to fuck off

By not doing so it adds weight to the myth that they are still a relevant force

Also - based on most cases - Man Utd pay over the orginal asking price.  The lad from Brentford went for more than Utd were orginally quoted.  No reason at all why we should sell for such a low fee.

United likely value Garnacho higher than Watkins.

£40 million + Garnacho would be more than fair, we wouldn't get anywhere near that.

Sounds like it’s not going to happen and they’re moving onto Sesko. Good.

Think Sesko was likely the first option. But I’m happy nevertheless

He is their first option because the ever reliable John Percy said we told them he was not for sale last week.

Those that say we should sell can never say who we should replace him with.

We aren't the scouts.

I think we should get rid of all of our players and replace them with better ones.

No, but when you have a player with a longstanding, proven, record, saying he should be sold underpriced in line with a figure another club wants to pay seems a bit odd. There’s better the devil you know, and then there’s absolute blind, unsubstantiated, hope.

What does he have a longstanding, proven record of? It certainly isn't goalscoring, he's had one good season in 5 in that regard.
