Do you think 16 in 40 is a good record? For goals. Nothing else. Just goals.

Well it is more then 1 in 3 isn't it. And is certainly better then what we have had for god knows how long. And I do like how you always have to ignore any other contribution he does.

It's worth pointing out that Salah was signed in 2017 and Vardy in 2012. They have fuck all to do with the current market.

So I need to list players who have better goalscoring records, but I'm only allowed to include those who moved in the past transfer window?

Using a player signed in 2012 as proof that we can sign better than Ollie in 2025 is hardly logical.

That’s some serious hate for Ollie Watkins to go to such lengths to prove your point. Which you haven’t. The day after he breaks the club PL scoring record, what a hill to die on.

I would die for the stars, he said.

Because my point is about his goalscoring.

His goal record isn't good enough.

'But assists'... I'm not talking about that.

I'm on about goals.

I think you know that 16 in 40 isn't good as well.

Strikers are no longer "just goals". That type of player was going out of date while Bent was still with us. Besides a freak like Haaland you rarely see them in any decent side now in any top league.

You realise that to find a player who scores or creates as many goals as him over the last few seasons in Europe you're talking less than 10 players, right? None of which we could come close to affording.

As PWS said the idea that you can simply assess a forward based on goal per game alone is hilarious. 1990s called...

And if you want to talk about the goals, 14 of those 16 have either put us ahead or drawn us level in games. Off the top of my head 3 of those goals have got us 9 points alone.

Don't worry keano, we just need to look at whoever is top scorer in the English Conference league and pay a million.

TBH we will have to replace Watkins at some point, whether it is this summer or next. I trust they will be good, I hope they exceed what Watkins has achieved but if they match his stats, I would be more then happy.

Hate  ;D

I mean the effort you are putting into this would suggest a very deep dislike for him. He doesn’t need to score 25 a season to be a great striker. Nobody has ever argued as a pure goalscorer he’s one of the very best of all time. But as an all round forward who contributes in different ways to our attacking intentions; his direct assists, his running off the ball, how he pulls defenders out of position so others can score, he’s an outstanding player at the top level of the game.

Imagine if he had just taken 5 of the big chances he's missed?......

Anyone offering Watkins' fitness levels, durability and overall contribution to our game will surely be a rare breed.

They aren't "missed" chances in that sense usually, (although he has airshottted a couple). They also include when a player is in the box but doesn't shoot and instead passes and a goal doesn't happen. For example if Ollie nods down to Rogers who places it wide.

Well lads I've said my bit. I've stated my opinions and I accept yours. At the end of the day whatever you think about players, tactics or anything else we all just want what's best for Villa (which is a striker with a good goalscoring record).

Repeatedly saying we have low standards I just find a bit weird, like we're daft twats who are happy with a Rustlers burger but only prime Argentinian beef is good enough for you. Have you seen what people moan about on here?

I just find it really odd that our top scorer in the Premier League era can be so under appreciated given what he’s helped the club achieve in that time.

Fair enough but don't be too smirky about it, it's a serious matter.
