I'll repeat what I wrote yesterday - the day I can't get childishly excited over the Villa playing in a proper cup final is the day I find a new hobby.

If it gives anyone hope, Wigan were in poor form heading into their FA Cup final win against Man City.

The two games prior were a 3-2 loss at home to Swansea, and a 4-1 battering away at Arsenal.

Wigan were 9/1 to win in 90 minutes, whilst we're 10/1 to win the cup overall (only comparison I could find)
Villa are 20/1 on Betfair to win in 90 minutes

Maybe as the week goes on I'll feel excited, but not at the moment. I just cannot see how we win when we defend as poorly as we are, so loose in midfield and so prone to gifts from poor individual errors.

Nev, I’ve been feeling really fed up the last couple of days, resigning myself to relegation. Thinking why am I spending literally hundreds on sundays cup final, when we’re likely to get hammered.

But I bloody love your post, absolutely 100% spot on. It’s the hope that kills, but what’s the bloody point if you haven’t got it.

Feck it we lose we lose, but you never know and some of those players owe a big peformance

As things stand I’m struggling to muster any enthusiasm, I’ve been really positive all season, but Saturday killed me. But....come Thursday/Friday I just knows the nerves and excitement and I’ll be convincing myself we can somehow do it, no logic or reasoning.

After Saturday I miserably said to my near 10 year old ‘what do you think about the cup final’ he looked like I was mad, and just said it can’t wait’!! Although just a kid he’s been going down since relegation season, so has seen some shite as well as the 10 game run. I’m taking a leaf out of his book, we lose heavily it’s just what we expected.....but you never know

A new cup record loss if we play like we did at the weekend.
You are making a big assumption that City are better than Southampton.

Don’t know if this has been captured elsewhere but with the current penalty placed on Man City by UEFA will that mean that we automatically get the Europa league place even if we lose Sunday?

Hating positive posts about a cup final seems a tad bizarre. We all realistically know that we're massive underdogs but hating that someone is positive is weird.

That isn't what I said though.  Positivity is good, but chest-beating posts like that I don't like. Each to their own.

The same could be said of the ultimate pessimist posts spouting endless misery, that everything is shit, we're already down, have already lost, and that the world will end. At least the positive ones are trying to give some hope.

Even if we lose, we'll go straight into the last 8 of next season's Champions Lesgue, with a home tie for the 2nd leg.

I think everyone is. Odds range from 14-1to 22-1 on a Villa win.

I've not looked on specific scores etc but some of those odds will be nuts.

Those odds are on us to win in ninety minutes. We are only around 10/1 to lift the trophy. Not that I'll be rushing out to put my life savings on it.

No offence at all but I really hate rah rah posts like that.  Well done on trying to be positive, but I'm going there intending to enjoy the day but throughly convinced we're going to lose.

I’m the same about some of the constant doom laden stuff as well. Like you I’ll enjoy the day no matter whether we win lose or draw.

There's no doubt our fans will be in great voice pre match  and as soon as the game kicks offs. Will likely be louder than Man. City who after their own long trophy drought are probably seeing this as just another game to win a trophy and even an inconvience with Real Madrid this week.

Trouble for me....will the team go out believing they can at least compete if not win? Bar a maturing Grealish the 2015 team had much more top level experience and quality in the 11 we put out compared to Sunday and the way we played was an incredible disappointment.

All the singing in the world won't matter if we go out and can't even do the basics like the league game in January e.g. tackling, marking and closing down.

Edit: I'd be more confident if we'd actually picked up a decent number of results against good teams over the season.

It's really slim pickings this season. Even in 2014-15 we won at Anfield and also at Spurs and drew 1-1 with Man. United with 10 men so showed we could raise our game and dig in to get results although we chose not to do any of that v Arsenal.
