Thought it was his best game for a while.

Yep. No sloppy mistakes and a solid game for the lad.

He played well. Goal aside, did he sit a bit deeper today?

Very close to the centre back pair I thought. Did well.

Great to see Dougie score after such a long drought.
Hopefully this will give him the confidence to push on with the Villa, as he's a very good footballer especially when asked to play to his strengths.

Yep good to see him get one but, there were at least three times in the game when under no he pressure passed straight to the opposition. One good game in how many? still not sure he will be with us after the summer.

I still like Doug.  I think it's highly likely he'll leave in the summer, but will we be losing a gem?

He's only 24.  I feel he's a victim of his own versatility having played DM for 3 seasons when it's clearly not his best role.  He's got a bit of quality, an excellent pass and bags of energy. Will we be letting a potentially outstanding No 8 leave or is he not quite at the level we need?

Obviously Ramsey is nailed on.  I think McGinn is playing well and will shine more if we can get a dominant DM behind him.  Personally I'd be pretty happy with Luiz as our third option and emergency cover for DM if needed, with Carney also an option

What do you think?

Absolutely. He's a quality player and still not at his peak, and rarely played in his best position for us. If we sell him someone will be getting a bargain.

Keep him for sure but I suspect his head has been turned and will leave in the summer. Luiz, McGinn and Ramsey competing for two spots next season is a strong group. Played very well last night but not as effective/bothered at 6 unfortunately.

His best perfs. as an 8 this season have been against the best two teams in the world. A pity our central midfielders never play in a position that suits them. Smith/Gerrard Out !

Assuming we are in the market for a DM and Nkamba will be the backup, then out of the players left, I would have Luis and Ramsay.  McGinn hasn't done enough for me this season.

Luis was playing very well while Nakamba was on the pitch (basically not playing the DM role) but as soon as Chuck came on (bizarre substitution) he reverted back to the DM role which doesn't suit him! There is a decent player in him but DM is definitely not a role for him so I assume he will move on and fulfill his potential elsewhere.

All the talk is that Luiz is moving on due to not signing a new contract
This window would be the one to be selling him and we can expect to see him leaving.

Does he want to/intend to sign a new contract?

If not, then it's time to ship him out. And before we start asking for a King's Ransom, we need to realise that sales to European clubs are bound to bring in less than a domestic sale - the money (outside of PSG, Real and Barca) isn't there.

Take what we can get (hopefully £20m+), wish him well and move on.

I’d rather lose him than Chuck to be honest
