I don’t usually get into the whole notion of setting imaginary thresholds on costs I’d be happy to receive.  But £30m seems a low one for a young Brazil international who clearly has potential to improve and would have massive resale value if that potential is realised.  If it’s Newcastle, ask for £60m.  If they’re stupid enough to pay it and he’s willing to go there, fine.

Would you swap Luiz for Emile Smith Rowe?

Yes I'd swap and give them cash on top, Smith Rowe is a far better player.

It could be that Luiz has decided to run his contract down, if so I would definitely take a decent offer and get someone else in instead. He is not a very good DM, and is not as good as Ramsey, McGinn or Sanson as an 8. If got upwards of £35m for a 1 good game in 4 second choice DM/4th Choice 8 then we should take the cash and buy a better DM with it.

If he stays he'll get no better. If he leaves he'll be the next Kevin De Bruyne. You can bloody guarantee it.

The latter part of that is why we should try to keep him if at all possible.

We have been here before, churning young players and then kicking ourselves later. Dougie will become a regular Champions League player in a couple years - the only question is whether it’s for us or not.

Any comparison to ESR is simply ludicrous.

He’s a class act. It confuses me why so many don’t see it.

Me too, but on the condition he signs a new contract this winter.

I love this as I sort of know it’ll be announced in a couple of days he’s signed a new contract.

We have no need to sell him. He’s a solid member of the squad and currently a starting midfielder. I do think he’s not as effective as a more defensive CM but he does a very unsung job. Add a proper DM and he can compete for one of the other CM spots.

He signs or we sell.
