Very clever of Man City really. They have a player they rate highly but can’t get a work permit (and probably feel he’s a year or two away from the first team) for. Sell him (sort of) but insert a buy back at x amount. See how he goes and then either leave him be, buy him back or buy him back and sell him on.

Barcelona do it with pretty much every young player they sell as already stated with Adama.Dosen't mean they'll re-sign Douglas as they've signed Rodri who's a DM and will pretty much be Fernandinho's replacement in starting 11 but obviously option is there if they so desire.
In fairness if Man City deem him a player they want back with all of the options they always have in terms of transfer targets then he’ll have done bloody well with us. And in any case hopefully by that stage, in 3 or 4 years time we will be a lot better off ourselves and competing consistently at the upper end of the table.
You'd normally set the return fee significantly higher than what you originally paid. So if we ended up "helping out City", that happened by him being so good for us that they want to give us a profit and he's given us enough good performances in our team to warrant that profit.
Just some no nothing blokes* opinion last season about our soon to be new Douglas.https://twitter.com/avfc_blog/status/1149586723103367169?s=12*AKA the outstanding Guillem Balagué
