The other oddity is if Jacks was a genuine plan for the Ashes why hasn’t he played in three years? Again not necessarily against it, and adapting and flexibility can be a good trait. But goes a bit against the whole building a team for the Ashes narrative.

Feels like a kick in the balls for Bethell though, carted around all summer to carry drinks and then gets overlooked.

Yeah I guess they’re looking for more than just part time spin, which Jacks is better than.

Bethell's problem is the man he's there to replace was the only batsman that did his job.

Just seen the very sad news of Robin Smith's death.  RIP The Judge - that square cut shot will live long in the memory.

Jacks wont bowl many overs, he will get smashed to pieces over there. Poor choice imo.

Fully anticipating waking up Thursday and England either being 5 down or Australia 1 down for 80 odd.

There was an interview with Robin Smith in the Times last weekend, in the last couple of years he had finally quit drinking and was also in a better place mentally. His death was a surprise, but I guess the drinking caused a lot of damage to his body but I don’t want to speculate.

During the first test in Perth he was interviewed at the ground by Brad Hogg in front of an audience and the discussion covered mental health where Smith broke down in tears, at the end he received a standing ovation.

As a player during the 90’s he stood out as a wonderful batsman in an era when English Cricket was awful. RIP Judge
