The other oddity is if Jacks was a genuine plan for the Ashes why hasn’t he played in three years? Again not necessarily against it, and adapting and flexibility can be a good trait. But goes a bit against the whole building a team for the Ashes narrative.

Feels like a kick in the balls for Bethell though, carted around all summer to carry drinks and then gets overlooked.
