I think it is both disappointing and the right result across the balance of the series.

One other thing, it’s entirely possible that might be the end of Woakes Test career. The game wouldn’t be what he wanted, but what an iconic way to go out.

"Woakes may risk rehab over surgery to make Ashes"

Woakes should take surgery because no way should England even consider taking him to the Ashes. We've been down that road before: the ball doesn't swing for him, his balls sit up nicely at exactly the height Aussie batsmen love and he gets carted around the park.

I love Woakes, but fully agreed.

Pitches have been different there of late. If he’s fit I’d have him tour and then see what the pitches look like.

How ironic that the game was a prolonged tribute to Thorpe, a fine English batsman.

Instead of piling on the praise, a few England batsmen might have chosen to copy his style, the ultimate tribute. I've a strong theory that Thorpey, at 300-3, would have seen England home comfortably.

But the team Thorpe played in would have been 30-3 instead.

I love the brand of cricket England play now, you’ve got to take the rough with the smooth, likes of Duckett plays how he does to unsettle the bowlers, which works really well for him.

If Woakes had been fit I’m sure we would have got over the line.

Yep, Bazball is a great way of setting up a victory -and then throwing it away with brainless stroke-play!!

Who'd have thought that playing rounders for the last month whilst your opposition were taking on the 50 over world champions in their back yard wouldn't be good prep.

Baker's performance thus far (6 overs for 68 and out for 0 first ball) is reminiscent of someone who has won a raffle to appear with a celebrity team as "star for the day". Ginger Baker could have done better and he's been dead for years (look him up kids, one of the all-time great drummers).

If only there had been a domestic 50 over competition with the best English players playing in it recently for the players to practice.

Don't know what you are moaning about Gareth.  It's not like the premier ODI World Cup is in the 50 over format is it?

Haha…true!

I’m not moaning though….Worcester would probs be nowhere near the 50 over final if half the good players in country cricket weren’t otherwise engaged in that nonsense

Still, at least the 16.4 brings in wedges of cash.

Trebles all round!!!
