One other thing, it’s entirely possible that might be the end of Woakes Test career. The game wouldn’t be what he wanted, but what an iconic way to go out.

Woakes should take surgery because no way should England even consider taking him to the Ashes. We've been down that road before: the ball doesn't swing for him, his balls sit up nicely at exactly the height Aussie batsmen love and he gets carted around the park.

Pitches have been different there of late. If he’s fit I’d have him tour and then see what the pitches look like.

How ironic that the game was a prolonged tribute to Thorpe, a fine English batsman.

Instead of piling on the praise, a few England batsmen might have chosen to copy his style, the ultimate tribute. I've a strong theory that Thorpey, at 300-3, would have seen England home comfortably.
