He will be learning that cricket is a cruel mistress, he was out for a two ball duck in his next IPL game.

Nice to see the international summer starting but this test against Zimbabwe has the feel of a glorified practice match.

All home tests feel a bit like that, unless it's Australia or India

It does, but it’s really important Zimbabwe are supported. They are prioritising Test cricket and they need to play, they’re spending a lot of their ICC fund on hosting Test matches.

Correct. Much prefer test series against teams like Zimbabwe and Ireland to filling the schedule with another million T20 leagues. Teams will never improve if they aren't given a chance. I'd favour a twelve-team test league with promotion and relegation, and no bigots allowed to pick and choose who they play against. By contrast though, happy to see Afghanistan fucked off until they, at least, allow a women's team.

This is getting pretty brutal though.

This is getting pretty brutal though.

Sure, but I'd imagine it was pretty one-sided when England first started playing regular tests against the West Indies, India and New Zealand. Still A Good Thing that they did.

Yep, this doesn't look great but this test existing as a one-sided slog is better than it not happening.

Zimbabwe lost to the PCC XI by over a hundred runs last week, so this always had the makings of a bit of a mismatch, especially on a good batting deck like Trent Bridge.

England were ruthless today though and only just missed out on scoring 500 runs in a day.

Made me laugh when one commentator said that Crawley and Pope had responded to their critics.

Well, yes and, er, no.

I get the impression England have already decided Bethell will be number 3.
