The difference between the teams today is that when they got a century he took his eye off the ball and got out a few balls later, our centurion powered on to a match winning innings. Carty will be kicking himself for letting that go.

What an innings from Joe Root.

What a player he is, leading run scorer in tests and ODI’s, a genius with the bat. He looked mentally shot when he gave up the test captaincy, to have him still here and still hungry for runs is wonderful.

Roooot! Wonderful innings. Also much better to see WI make a game of it today.

He’s just a remarkable player. I really hope he gets an away Ashes ton or two, just to put that argument to bed. He is one of the greats.

The Ashes pre-sale priority window is a bit naff. Been on and off it for about 4 hours but still no success. Very limited allocation ATM.

West Indies channelling their inner village cricket team vibes by being late for the start of the ODI stuck in traffic.

England made it on time by getting off the coach and using lime bikes according the Brook at the toss.

Poor start from WI but it's been really good bowling and fielding from England.

28-3 after 6.2.

You going over to Aus? Seeing an Ashes Boxing Day test at the MCG would be amazing.

Yes. Did the MCG Ashes Boxing day test in 2017 along with Sydney, a proper bucket list item for me. Unfortunately England were 3-0 down by the time everybody arrived in Melbourne.  So this time we are doing Perth and Brisbane (test 1&2) with a break in Bali in between.

Sounds fantastic! The Optus Stadium is an awesome venue. I went to see the first day of the Australia v Pakistan test there in Dec 2023. Ticket cost me about £20 something like that.

Edit: just remembered - my ticket also included public transport. I was staying in Mandurah and it didn't cost me a penny to get to the ground.

Oh and if you haven't been already, Kings Park in Perth is beautiful and worth your time. You can get the bus there for free from Perth centre.

Dawson making them quite silly for failing to pick him for three years.
