Grealish played his part. He's not McGinn, but he's not nobody.

Agreed, and he's welcome back at VP as a fan any time he wants. I just hope we never have to see him walk around the pitch as one of the 'legends' to be applauded.

Grealish is essentially David Platt to SJMs Sid or God.

He’d have to edit the bit where he played for us to be comparable to Platt. I don’t think he’d do such a thing.
SJM is rightly in the same bracket as Sid or God.

And he'd have to do something good at the world cup too.

Agreed. SJM like Sid and God apart from being a brilliant footballers are all noted for their humility. The only difference I can see is SJM doesn't mind celebrating a goal but even then his celebration isn't about him.

Every team needs a John McGinn. We're blessed that he's a Villan.

For me, SJM isn't a world class player, but he's a world class team mate. I reckon he'll be the hardest to replace out of our squad when the time comes.

McGinniesta is up there with Paul McGrath in terms of what he’s brought to the team. There’s no higher praise than that.

I saw something recently where he said something to the effect of anybody who thinks he only brings energy and running around hasn’t been watching his football ability and he’s right. His movement, poise, shooting and passing are really very very impressive.

Agree.  He's going to leave a massive hole in the side when his legs go a bit.

I get  what you’re saying and I’d probably say Martinez is probably the only world class player we currently have.
He Is though up there with the very best villa players for me. Ive seen so many top villa players leave over the last 40 tears including God and Sid, whether it’s my age, but I honestly cannot fathom a time when McGinn doesn’t play for us, I can’t envisage it. Total cliche but he is literally the beating heart of Villa 2018 to now. We just have to see him lift a trophy for us, it would just mean everything.

World class is a really strange term because who you consider to be world class really depends on how you interpret it. For me I tend to go with would they be picked for the majority of the top ten international teams in the world. So 10-15 players per position can be considered.

On that basis I'd have Martinez as a definite and Tielemans and Kamara as right on the brink. If he can keep his form up Konsa is pushing towards that standard as well.

After that the next tier down is people who'd bi in the mix as squad players for those teams and I think most of our team is in that bracket, or would've been a few years back for some of the older players.

Why not consider McGinn as a world class communicator/captain/bloke?

He is all of those.

Whether he is a world class player is a different question.

Alf Ramsey once said to Jack Charlton "I don't pick the best players, I pick the best team".
