Whatever you think of him he’s been the best of the central midfield options in the time he’s been here up until maybe the past 6 months where Ramsey has outshone him a bit. He didn’t play the more attacking midfield role either last season, Ramsey did.
He’s had to play with piss weak, off the pace players like Nakamba, Luiz and Sanson since we’ve been in the PL, or kids.

I'd want £50mil to sell him, but if we was buying him off Burnley (for example) then I'd be pissed off if we spent more than £25mil.

RCF mentions that he's played too much football and I'd agree, especially with the high energy game he plays. I think most footballers do in our league. You only have to look at that turge fest yesterday. The seasaon only finished a few weeks ago and they're playing pointless games. I'm glad the likes of Watkins and Mings are sitting on a beach somewhere with their feet up.

As for McGinn, I like him a lot, I think he's great. Hopefully next season with a couple of additions, we can give him a rest now and again and more importantly, play him further forward.

Totally agree.  These pointless international games are a right load of bollocks.  McGinn is a cracking player on his day and hopefully those days will be more commonplace when he's playing in a settled, high-functioning midfield with a specialist holding midfielder doing the water carrying.

They aren't "pointless games". Scotland have, literally, qualified for one tournament in the past 24 years and it was because of their Nations League performance.

When we have a squad with options I would expect to see less in terms of minutes  but more in terms of contribution.

But players don't need them so soon after a season has finished and especially with another season and a World Cup looming.

The Nations' League is more meaningful than the meaningless friendlies it's replaced.

Better to play them at the end of the season than disrupt the season over and over again, IMO. And McGinn's last game was moved from March, to be fair. FIFA aren't to blame for Russia invading Ukraine.

Sorry mate, but aren't most of Scotland's fixtures pointless precisely because they never fucking qualify?

A player played in the wrong position for me - he's a cracking attacking midfielder as his goal vs Spurs 1st season back can testify! Alternatively, if you want to hate him cos he's a Jock then fine, but as a Mick (as the BBC seemed fine with some Public School Rupert saying the other day) then I suspect there's a bit of an agenda with having a go at a player who only cost us £3M from Hibs!

I think the fact he cost next to nothing will be a problem for absolutely nobody, or will the fact he's Scottish!

That goal you referred to is a good point - that's what he can do, we've seen that. We just haven't seen him do it for quite a long time now.

And we've never seen him do it in the Premier League more than three times a season. He played as one of the most attacking of the midfield three for most of last season, and still couldn't score.

Not for want of trying, though.
I’m pretty sure on 3 or 4 occasions the various keepers pulled of a good/great save, and a few other times he was slightly off target.
So, just like Ollie, a bit more accuracy/luck and SJM could have hit double figures, or pretty close.

I think he’s certainly a top half Premier League player. Top 4 or 5? Probably not, but he could certainly do a grand job for any team hovering around 6-10

It's always worth seeing which teams we help qualify.

I don’t suppose it matters what we think really it’s what Gerrard thinks that matters
And I think Gerrard sees him as integral to the project over the next couple of seasons

Hopefully we will hit the top six with McGinn as a starter to prove you know nothings all wrong
either that or McGinn will be playing for a top six side somewhere else either way he’s a top six player and that’s where he’ll end up playing

How on earth has he played too many games? We haven't been in Europe and haven't got very far in the cups. McGinn has played in 45 games this season. Declan Rice and Tielemans have played in 56 to name two comparable examples. That's the number of games that good players for successful teams have to play a year.

It's about 43 more than Grealish played and we got £100 million for him. 🙂
