20 years ago I worked for a software company based in Texas.  Global customer base, we had half a dozen banks here in the UK as customers. I went over to Dallas one year for the company's annual kick-off, and got chatting to the "Global Marketing Director".  She was from Dallas, was in her mid-40s, and had never, ever, left the state of Texas.  When I appeared incredulous at that fact, she basically said, "Why would I leave? Texas has absolutely everything anyone could ever need!"   It turns out, she wasn't that unusual.

Villa Park is not in Texas.

Stupid comment. They don't have the Villa, do they?

A sense of perspective about how great Texas is also appears to be missing.

Have they got orange chips? Not crisps. Didn't think so, sounds shit. I bet they can't beat Drayton Manor, either.

I've been thinking about this situation, and as much as I don't want us to move from Villa Park, I just hope that if/when we do it's not for the addition of a poxy ten thousand seats. Actually, even twenty thousand wouldn't be enough to move in my view.

If we're going to move, it must be for 70,000+ seats, with provision to expand even beyond that.

If people say we won't fill it, it's missing the point. The game really is all about the money now. 15,000 empty seats won't matter if the total receipts are (plucking a figure out of the air) ten million quid per game thanks to the corporate.

As for getting the extra people in and out? Dunno. Don't care. A problem for the club/authorities to sort out.

It occurred to me that every other club in the area hates the Villa. Wolves have invented a rivalry with us, so did Coventry a quarter of a century ago. I've even met Walsall fans who hate Villa. Fucking Walsall, ffs. Well I say let's shoot for the stars and give them even more to be green with envy about.

I think Wolves are moonwalking away from their imaginary rivalry. Some of the wife’s family are dogheads and I was told after we beat them that it was all just a laugh and they hate Smethwick really. You’ve just got to sit back and smile.
The rest of them as we know are just eaten up by envy. Apart from Small Heath who are building the Wembley of the midlands and will rule the world in a few years!!!!
I love that first sentence. Absolutely brilliant. I know more blue noses than i'd like to admit and the majority absolutey believe that they are on the cusp of greatness and we will be left in their wake in the next few years. It's also a common belief that they are planning to get relegated so Netflix can do a documentary based on the American owners at Wrexham and The Sty. I don't think delusional is a strong enough word to describe them. I  think Yampy describes them better.

Over the years i've seen plenty of videos of people in the UK being very similar to that. We can also forget just how big the US is when we think of them as insular.

This is just Texas when compared to Europe.

I had similar, sipping amazing cocktails in a decent hotel with clearly smart, well off people;, it transpired that the only place outside Texas that my cohorts had been was Afghanistan.

I work for a Houston based company. I’m in Texas all the time. Not my spot of choice to visit for fun, but it’s got a lot going for it, especially the cost of living. That’s of course if you ignore the guns, heat, politics, general dislike for Hispanics, other non white non Texans. If you have money you’ll be just fine. I suppose that’s most of America.

Can we get to not building a new stadium chat please 😉😳😃

I did think about the conversations that have taken place in this thread on my way down Trinity Road to Villa Park on Sunday.  It is a special place for me and I would be loathe for Villa to leave there, but would grudgingly accept it meant we could take that next step as a club.

I did think though about what potential options there could be to stay at Villa Park.  A few people have mentioned about purchasing the land and the houses between Witton Lane and the train line, but I don't know how realistic that prospect is.  Let's say it is though, that would give the potential build over the Witton Lane and increase the size of that stand.  It could also mean there could be potential to build something for the women's team there and make it into a sports village type of thing.  The academy being built there could point to that sort of idea.

It's just whether anything built around there is going to generate year round revenue.
