The identity argument is why we’re the Club of the Midlands rather than Birmingham.

Aston wasn’t in Birmingham until 1911.

So the walking to games argument is a non sequitur. It’s the reason we’ve always been so well supported and why Small Heath were never considered rivals until 1960s.

It would seem a bit odd to get hitched to this sort of minority stakeholder if it's just to fund a new stand or the likes. Time will tell I suppose

It might not just be the money, but the expertise, too.

Atarios park anyone ?🫣

I wonder if we'll prefer to kick towards the 'McDonalds Stand' or the 'Coca-Cola End' in the second half.

I know the ground has changed but it's also been the journey to the ground, the walk through the park, walk back to town, number 11 etc etc. If we do leave I'll bloody miss it. I've often walked my eldest to the ground from where we live now just for me to reminisce and bore the life out of him.

New ground.

Unless anyone can think of any other required infrastructure investments needed?
Underground system.

The trains aren't good enough so they'll create their own transport system. Underground.

We've been in Birmingham for 113 years. People don't want us in the city centre because of an identity, but because they like the idea of it (like St James' Park). There's also the attraction of how amusing it would be for the neighbours, but that's just an added cherry on a cake.

I used to.enjoy the walk to school with my mates. The walk down to the Union. The lunch time strolls at previous employers. The house where I grew up. Things change. Sentiment is fine until it holds you back. Villa Park self evidently holds us back.

You can create new memories, new routes, new pubs, new good times. It's always been about the relationship with the people in the landscapes, rather than the landscape itself.

The only person I’ve seen arguing in favour of the city centre is you.

There’s a section in Faver Pitch on the difference between Villa and Blues supporters and why Hornby preferred Villa’s.

There are plenty in favour of it. I don't need Nick Hornby and his footie opinions to tell me the difference between us and the Noses.

I'd argue for it, too, if that was the difference between competing and not competing.

And as much as Heck has received criticism for aspects of his time with us, and in many case rightfully so, I imagine that putting on hold existing plans is connected to a larger look at what we might do at the ground. I’d hate to leave. I’d hate it even more if we kept having to sell our best players each year to survive financial rules and regs because we can’t compete with the West Ham’s let alone Tottenham, Arsenal, Man U etc.

So. Bear with me on this. It's a long one.
Blues are owned by a PE house. They aren't known for their philanthropy. So they bought the Blues for a song and through player trading have managed to convince the great unwashed that they are the best owners one could wish for - despite not actually puting any of their own money into the team, sacking the most decent manager they had for a 'name' and sinking more and more down the table by the week.
In the meantime they've bought the Birmingham Wheels (unclean) site. Again for a song. But with grants for clean up. So they spout about 60k stadiums and multi sports / alternative uses. Revenue streams are the buzz words because of FFP.
Whilst they continue to fail to deliver they make even more preposterous claims about being bigger than us and trying to mock us for taking the piss out of them.
IMO their end game is to clean up the Wheels site, get the best planning for sports retail hospitality etc, and then dispose of it at a profit before they have to spend any of their own funds.
Target buyer - us. We get a clean site with planning (a part of which is in Aston) . They make a tidy profit for their stakeholders. We get the stadium we want close-ish to the town centre. They get to share with us as tenants. The City Council loves it as they have a site to invest transport infrastructure in that everyone will be in favour of. End.

I'm very much in the fence about a new ground. I'm honesty i'd much rather stay at Villa Park. The one exception being that if we could move to a city centre stadium that genuinely looked and was the best looking ground in the country, and retained the red brick facades etc ... I might be able to get behind that.
