Well he’d still have to play with what was available and within the parameters of our current predicament. But as someone said above I don’t see any Glenn Whelan’s or similar bog standard industrial players. And maybe all it is is I just want to see good football again, and our kids given a chance. Is that too much to ask?

Important to note as we dismiss managers without a lot of experience we are entering our third season in the Championship. The current manager for all his promotion and lower league pedigree has failed twice.

This is very true. And with even less chance to sign 'his players' and actually develop what is in front of him, it's looking likely to be a similar result this year if nothing changes.

I have to confess when I’ve seen Henry on Sky he hasn’t struck me as someone with a lot betw the ears...as bland as Jamie Redknapp but with a more exotic accent.

However, I am all for rolling the dice with Henry, Terry or another non dinosaur manager - I think if Bruce gets into another season after seemingly not being held to account for his part in the failure last season he’ll keep dumbing down expectations more and more until his crap brand of football is seen as acceptable.  I find the ‘we were only 90 minutes away’ narrative very frustrating because as poor as that first 45 minutes was that wasn’t the true failure, that was not being in that top 2 places.

Maybe Bruce constantly dumbing down expectations is ultimately what cost us

The Henry thing has gained some va va voom. If we do appoint him then I guess the FFP situation is going to be ignored, as I can’t imagine him joining without assurances. This is a coin flip appointment IMO.

big risk imo - buy Bruce has had the opportunity and didn't cut the mustard so if it's not now for him, it is a few miles down the road

I don't want him because it's yet another gamble.  At a time when we seem to have decent people in charge with the opportunity to builds something, I would prefer to have someone in charge who knows this league, has some experience of management of a big club with difficult expectations.  Being black, French, ex-Arsenal or a complete twat has nothing to do with it.  He's a risk, he's a circus waiting to happen and I would prefer the cameras to be on the team and not on the manager.

Nearly all appointments are a gamble, though.
Saunders was a gamble, Barton was a gamble, Even Graham Taylor was a bit of a gamble as he'd got no big club experience.

Man U even gambled on keeping Fergie during his first couple of seasons as they weren't doing much.

Sometimes it works other times not so.

Saunders had got a team promoted two seasons earlier and got to two consecutive cup finals. Barton was the most respected figure amongst the players. Taylor was one of the two or three most highly-regarded managers in the country. And one of the greatest myths in football is that Ferguson did nothing at the start with Manchester United. In his first full season they finished runners-up, in his second they were eleventh and in his third they won the FA Cup. None of them were a gamble on the level of appointing a man who has never so much as managed a pub team.

I accept I was taking it to an extreme level, Dave, my point was just that sometimes maybe if you're going to gamble at least go for it, rather than gamble on a BFS type

There is not enough courage in football, the idea of trying something new, taking a risk, fortune favours the brave etc.

But I'm fearful of Henry as our manager. Those appointed by virtue of name and reputation as a player only, rarely succeed, I hope we may be the exception but I'm afraid I can't see it.

Henry talking about Pep and tactics.

God help the man when he gets to Bodymoor and looks at Taylor and Whelan to implement this

And another thing, he appeared not to like us very much. Always ran to goad our fans when scoring against us, I seem to remember some story about him hearing something said from our end and not forgetting it. And there was that handball, and my mother- in-law can't stand him.
Here's hoping he wins us 'round......

Bould in as Number 2 is the rumour isn't it? He has plenty of experience...

That'll be the same Steve Bould who was regularly cited by Arsenal fans as part of the malaise surrounding Wenger in the last few seasons. And they probably went easy on him as he was one of their own.

The new owners may be looking for a recognised name someone with a bit of cred, has he looked at last years replays I wonder. If he does come I would suggest that the owners think they can get round the fair play rules.

If the Henry thing came to pass it will either be a stroke of genius or put is in Division 1 - not so much a gamble more a game of Russian Roulette with the clubs future....

The new owners seem to act pretty quickly on a number of issues, if it is Henry coming in for Bruce they are taking a huge gamble, but then again I am one of those who thinks Bruce is a dinosaur when it comes to management and tactics, Henry maybe the breath of fresh air we need. All new managers are a gamble, some more than others, Henry would be a major one and those that say with the international team, how could he go wrong, well as good as the players were, Spain, Germany, Argentina all had some good players in their teams, squad, but went out early, so he must have been part of something with Martinez that was right.
