Dunno much about Ipswich but can't see us winning with this get in the lead and sit back approach. 2-1 to them.

ayew

gestede mccormack green grealish

baker gollini elphick chester bunn

westwood

Westwood in goal means he'll bottle coming for crosses or diving at the feet of forwards. Don't like it. Rather not have Mark Bunn playing as a wing back. Same with Gestede playing wide left.

A little bit concerned about that line up.

sorry it is ayew in goal and westwood up front leading the line

Time to stop spunking points away against mediocre sides.

2-1 to Ipswich

We've been having every- one back defending since lambert' time and I just don't get why somethings never change. Put someone  on the half-way line ffs.

Oh agreed on that. A bugbear of mine for years. Grealish and Ayew won't win many headers in our box. They might keep a few out of it who will if they are stood on the halfway line though.

when i played under 11's football our manager always said that when the opposition had a corner 2 attackers had to stand on the halfway line

fuck me is it really that difficult?

This seems to get picked up by football fans regularly. The counterargument I have seen is that the more people defending in the box the more likely it is to stop a goal. Of course however it means sacrificing an attacking outlet. I assume coaches and managers have lots of stats about goals from corners and what the best way to defend them is. Most teams seem to do it nowadays.

by leaving two men on the half way line the opposition have to leave 3 back so you already have an advantage

dont get me started on zonal marking

I'd like to know your opinion of zonal marking

Must confess I know bugger all about Ipswich and couldn't name you a single player (unless Paul Cooper's still in nets). I do however have an extensive knowledge of Aston Villa and for that reason I'd predict a final score of ITFC 2-0 AVFC.

2-1 Villa, Ian Marshall will give them the lead before two Villa goals from Dean Saunders and Andy Townsend.

I agree with Ads' team, gives us a lot more balance. Obviously if one of McC or Grealish get fit, they take Adomah's place with him to come off the bench with his pace.

Ipswich 0-1 Villa if we are solid and set up correctly.
We seemed set up correctly in last night's first half. Just read in the Birmingham mail one of their players stating that at half time they decided to push Woods forward to counter our attacking threat and also they sorted out the threat from our wide players. Well Woods went on to dominate the game and they could've easily won it. I'd like to know what the discussion was in our dressing room? Because one things for certain. They out thought us tactically. This was fucking Brentford!!

Even in the first half, I didn't feel we were playing well as a team. The goal was a moment of individual quality, we weren't creating chances by passing through them, and for the last 10 minutes of the half we were holding on a bit.

Players will always talk about minor tweaks, in order to praise the management and they are feeling good after coming away with a point, but in reality they didn't have to change much to get something out of the game.

I agree.

They had 2 free headers on the right side of our box in the first half.

Unlike last season I haven't gone into any game so far thinking the worst - that may come vs Newcastle but certainly from some of our performances this season I've been really encouraged, we just need to hold onto the lead in games and take more of our chances.
