Without this cup we wouldn't have had a trophy for 34 years.

We are in the Championship. We shouldn't be dismissive of the cup like we are some PL playing for a CL place.

I know Dave but I still don't care about it, I never have but I'm not taking anything away from past or future teams but as a fan I'm just not bothered. I don't understand why there are two domestic cups. Do other countries do it? I would rather add prestige to one cup personally. It would give our poor tired heroes abroad playing tournaments a little more rest.

Never seen us win there, horrible place.

I went there as a kid and vaguely remember Gary Shaw scoring an absolute pearler. I'm sure he flicked it up once or twice and volleyed it in.

I was at that game and it was a cracking goal. We lost 2-1, to a Paul Walsh winner IIRC. I recall the away end was open and they were lobbing stones / bricks into us after the final whistle.

A mate of mine lived there for 3 years a decade ago and it is a rough town. Lots of small minded people with a strong racist minority too.

The tiny percentage of EDL pricks has given the town a bad name, but most folk got on well when I grew up there, the fact that the EDL could never drum up much support in the town shows this.

I hope we win this game and get a glamour tie in the second round. The chance to see real premier league players at Villa Park would be a dream for an EFL club like us! Maybe we'll cause a shock by beating Watford, Burnley or Swansea.

I'm excited already!

Nathan Jones says he will embrace his team’s “tough start” to the Sky Bet League Two season – and he told lutontown.co.uk how he is already looking forward to a famous cup night under the Kenilworth Road lights when Championship giants Aston Villa visit for the first home game.

Had to smile when I saw this on Luton's OS.

" Championship giants", wow we are still a big club then!!

Unless you have a massive squad to deal with the extra games then in our case I think its best to focus on the league.  Not saying we should throw this cup, because it would help build momentum if we had a run in it, but we can't put the same amount of importance on it as we will the league.

Problem is with the Championship being such a close league, even if we're some way off the PO come Feb when the final is, or even if we are flying high near the top, there are still plenty of games to change that position.  But since this is near the start of the season then we might as well go for it.

No, let's win it and get promotion as well, just like '75.

Yes, and if we play such scintillating football as we did in the second half of that season, and storm to promotion, so much the better.
