Do you what made me feel the worst? At 3-0 they panned to a young Villa fan in tears and I just thought there's a good chance that it he won't see us perform any better in a cup final for one or two decades.

Which is worse? This or 2000?
THIS!! Remember 2000 and been dreading this all week - wanted to hide in the shed until Monday. Dragged myself to the pub but couldn't take anymore after the 3rd.

Thread title incorrect as Arsenal under 10's in the pub celebrating the goals.

Not a pub in London either, more glory hunters being nurtured in Stourport on Severn.

We go again I fear

Well that was good, you fucking bottling arseholes

that is unfair in my opinion. Their 2nd goal was a wonder goal, how does that equate to bottling it? Arsenal have better players and we had tactics wrong like leaving GA on the bench.

You're kidding.

If anything 4-0 flattered us.
7-0 wouldn't have been unfair, we were absolute garbage in every department except goalkeeper.

not being funny mate but how can you call yourself a Villa supporter with a comment like that?

Clearly you're a much better fan than me and a far better judge of a Villa performance. And for that reason I'm out.

clearly you are wearing beer goggles and not the good ones.

You are going to have a tough time convincing anyone that the performance today was anything other than abject.

I totally agree it could have been more and 4 didn't flatter them,

Guzan's conceded 8 against Arsenal this season. He'd have let in a few today aswell.
He might have done, he might not have done. He might have dropped a bollock that Given didn't.

But I bet he wouldn't have let a bloke who is 5ft 6 win a header at the edge of our six-yard box.

And a big piece of that is the manager. Lambert accepted mediocrity and failure. I'm hoping Sherwood buys players be it with Lerner's money or a new bloke that never do.
For however long he is manager, do you envisage Sherwood signing a player as good as Benteke?

How can anyone possibly answer that question? When Lambert signed Benteke nobody in Europe saw what he'd become because we signed him pretty much unchallenged. Until he gets a few windows we won't know how well or not he does.
Well your point seems to be (and apologies if I've read it incorrectly) that you hope that we wash away the legacy of Lambert's players to bring in a bright new dawn of whatever Sherwood sees his team to be.

From what I've seen so far (and I appreciate that he's not had any opportunity to sign a player yet) I don't think that Sherwood's intended scouting will see us taking a punt on the bloke that Genk (or other team from Europe's minor leagues) have up front.

Hopefully I'm misjudging the bloke, but it doesn't strike me as his style.

what have you seen so far though, he hasn't bought anyone yet?

me too, are you trying to take the piss because you are making a bloody good job of it. As Jon says, 7-0 wouldn't have flattered them. If you're on the wind up, could you choose a better occasion to do it than this?

no im not trying to "take the piss".

That was much worse than the worst I had imagined beforehand. We know they're a good team but we failed to close them down and allowed them to close us down with ease.
To have no shots speaks volumes even if we should've had the penalties. I couldn't feel sorry for the players but did for myself and the other fans who stayed to imagine what it would've been like as Arsenal lifted the trophy.

I would hope that his style is to bring in players that reflect his attitude. Lambert bought Benteke in his first summer when he was a very different man and manager. Whatever happened to him it permeated through all of his decisions.

It's not just about who Sherwood buys it's about the environment that is created for those players to develop. I am hoping that he not only finds talented players, that not only do they arrive with belief, but also he provides them with the platform and confidence to play to their very best level. And we don't know anything really about the players he has looked at. He said it was a really long list. I have to think it extends beyond these shores. Time will tell.

Ah well, soundly beaten by a much better team.  We just didn't turn up at all, for the second FA Cup Final running.  I don't really blame Sherwood too much, as it's largely the team that has been dire for three years, and I suppose we should be grateful that he managed to get enough out of them to stay up.  It's disappointing though, it was clear from early on that the 3-2-1 midfield and forwards just weren't working for the third match in a row, with Grealish and N'Zogbia offering nothing at all.

You just can't be as sloppy all over the pitch as were today, especially in defence.

We essentially need an entire back four, plus two midfielders and two new forwards in the summer.

Still, had a cracking day.  The kids enjoyed Wembley, and it was great to catch up with the usual suspect in the pub beforehand.  Stu, Stu Amfy, Jane, Edvard and everybody else really are a top bunch of guys and girls.

I'm sorry, but to say that Given should/could have come to meet that cross is ridiculous.

Right. Mr Brightside here.

In my lifetime supporting Villa we've been in 9 cup finals and won 5 of them. Winning finalists in LC 75, 77, 94, 96 EC 82 losing finalists LC 71, 10 FAC 00, 15.

Better than 50% but sadly the ones that stick out are the abject performances in 00 and today.

His team selections. That's not the be-all-and-end-all, as he is dealing with the hand he has been dealt.

However if he's decided that Cole is a better option then Gil going on what they've shown for the club so far then it's probably not unreasonable to think that he's going with 'Premier League = good, fancy foreign types = bad".

Some stats;

Arsenal shots 16 (9 on target)

Aston Villa shots 2 (0 on target) - struggling to recall the 2 if I'm honest.

Corners

Arsenal 8

Aston Villa 0

Fuck me...........................
