And a big piece of that is the manager. Lambert accepted mediocrity and failure. I'm hoping Sherwood buys players be it with Lerner's money or a new bloke that never do.
For however long he is manager, do you envisage Sherwood signing a player as good as Benteke?

Well maybe he should be given a chance. As for Benteke, he was one of many who did not turn up today, he was a disgrace for the 3rd goal, as was N'Zogbia for the first goal. I can accept that they have better players but I thought that some players froze. Only read the last few posts but did we all think the tactics were wrong before the start cos I didnt

Complete embarrassment.

Sherwood has to take his fair share of blame for that. Hutton starting instead of Bacuna suggested he wanted to stop Arsenal, which was never going to happen. We should've played to win like the best matches we've had under him.

As for the players, I know Arsenal were good, but they were embarrassing. All of them.

I didn't think it'd get worse than walking away in 2000...

The scarves are nice though. I'll look forward to wearing mine in public. In fact, some are so proud of them they took more than one from seats that didn't belong to them.

The blueprint was the semi performance against 'The Mighty Reds YNWA'. Bacuna is an important player for us if we're to have a real attacking intent.

90 minutes of chasing shadows. Amazed we ended with 11 men, especially when we consider how shite the Ref was to us.

Shocking. I feel sorry for Guzan, would have been much better at dealing with the first three goals, and Gabby who did more in his brief cameo than anyone else.

Wouldn't mind us quickly moving to bring in Charlie Austin, Neil Taylor and Steven Caulker (saw all three names mentioned, Caulker's name seemed to be mentioned negatively but I like him). Clevs from the last three games I wouldn't want, but he was good before that. We need to rebuild this team into a hard-working unit, instead of relying on one star man who can't be bothered most of the time.

Nonsense re Guzan doing better for the first three goals imo

Well that was good, you fucking bottling arseholes

that is unfair in my opinion. Their 2nd goal was a wonder goal, how does that equate to bottling it? Arsenal have better players and we had tactics wrong like leaving GA on the bench.

You're kidding.

If anything 4-0 flattered us.
7-0 wouldn't have been unfair, we were absolute garbage in every department except goalkeeper.
Given was at fault for three of their four goals. He is as much to blame for today as anybody.

Agreed but he also made 3 or 4 great saves.

He always makes good saves but meaningless when he can't organise the defence or catch/ punch a cross. Massively overrated and needs to be shifted. 50k a week FFS.

I agreed with the decision but wrong in hindsight

not being funny mate but how can you call yourself a Villa supporter with a comment like that?

Clearly you're a much better fan than me and a far better judge of a Villa performance. And for that reason I'm out.

clearly you are wearing beer goggles and not the good ones.

You are going to have a tough time convincing anyone that the performance today was anything other than abject.

How can anyone possibly answer that question? When Lambert signed Benteke nobody in Europe saw what he'd become because we signed him pretty much unchallenged. Until he gets a few windows we won't know how well or not he does.
Well your point seems to be (and apologies if I've read it incorrectly) that you hope that we wash away the legacy of Lambert's players to bring in a bright new dawn of whatever Sherwood sees his team to be.

From what I've seen so far (and I appreciate that he's not had any opportunity to sign a player yet) I don't think that Sherwood's intended scouting will see us taking a punt on the bloke that Genk (or other team from Europe's minor leagues) have up front.

Hopefully I'm misjudging the bloke, but it doesn't strike me as his style.

Tim's first signing will surely be an indicator on how he intends to mould the team.

I remember Lambert signed the shambolic El Ahmadi, which pretty much personified his teams.

I think most of us are tired and emotional in a George  Brown type way. Now isn't the time for gratuitous bed wetting; a bigger disaster would have been falling out of the PL, not loosing a Cup Final against a very good side. A hugely important summer awaits, with or without new owners.

Can anyone organise that defence?  It's been shit for 4 years, what makes you think all of a sudden someone can organise it?

Yet also stopped it being six or seven.
There were two competent, but routine saves (Koscielney's header in the first half and a low shot in the second) that I remember.

It's a very Robert Green/Scott Carson argument though. Saving the ball once or twice doesn't make it ok that you weren't good enough to stop the three that you shouldn't have let in.

Guzan's conceded 8 against Arsenal this season. He'd have let in a few today aswell.

With the way the game panned out today I think the keeper debate today is futile.
