I suppose that could be the side for Liverpool with Baker in for Clark who is suspended.

More than anything Gil needs to be allowed to remain the player we are buying. That his job is to get the ball from the likes of Sanchez and run at the defence. No defender likes that, and have that on both sides of the pitch it generally leads to good things. The defence if only asked to defend is more than good enough for this league. It's when they (that is the full backs esp.) are asked to provide the width that we look all over the place.

Possible team with Delph back

-------------------------------Guzan---------------------------

Hutton---------------Okore------------Clark--------Cissokho

--------------------------------Sanchez------------------------

-----------------Westwood-----------------Delph--------------

---------Gil-----------------------------------------Sinclair-----

---------------------------------Benteke----------------------

Subs: Gabby, Given, Baker, Cleverley, Cole, Weimann, Richardson
<<like>>

Maybe Grealish instead of Cole though and Bacuna instead of Richardson.

If he ends up being amazing he'll end up going to a wealthier club that Valencia anyway.

It'll be something like this:

Scenario 1: player is utterly brilliant and has half of Europe after him. Goes to a Real Madrid or Man City type team for far more than €12 million.
If he ends up being that amazing, then he'll probaby probably be back at Valencia for 12m and they then sell him on for the bigger money. If they have a buy-back option, then we wouldn't be able to sell him on for more money without giving them the right to exercise their option first.

Is a buy back option even legal?

It could be a first refusal, which I suppose is.

Unless there is some FA/UEFA/FIFA rule against it a buy back option would certainly not be against the law of the land.

This worries me a little.

Further details on Carles Gil deal. Valencia retains an option to buyback of around €12m, as well as 10% of any future sale.

If true, and it ever gets to that point he'll have done really well with us. Hopefully by that stage we'll have identified the next Gil.

So we have a short position on him for 12m yoyos - we could trade him on the futures market.

I think it happens a bit more on the continent.

As an example Real Madrid sold Dani Carvajal to Leverkeusen for 5m euros, with the option to buy him back anytime they wanted for 6.5m. Which they did and he's now back at Madrid.

I was about to post the exact same thing.

But what would happen then is that Valencia would excercise their option and pocket anything over the 12m Euros, I imagine.

Interesting, that sort of arrangement effectively sounds like a very elaborate loan deal.

I understand what you're saying, but surely they can't sign a player without said player's consent, regardless of this clause?

If Real Madrid want to sign him, he'll choose to sign for them, rather than choosing to sign for Valencia then waiting at least a season before signing for Real by which time they could've gone off him/changed their manager, etc.

Did we not have first refusal on Cowans and Rideout as part of the deal when we sold them to Bari?

It does throw up the conundrum of the player not actually wanting to go back, and there has to be some kind of time limit to it surely?
