The general consensus is we want a player capable of crossing the ball in play and dead ball situations.  Perhaps try and swap Gabby for Larsson at Sunderland?  If the rumours that MoN wants him are true.  I don't subscribe to the view that Gabby is worth 10-15 million at all, especially based on last seasons form.

I'd be surprised to get 10 mil to be honest. He's not the player he was and much of that is down to a loss of speed caused by injuries. When he's on he's brilliant. When he's not he is very ordinary.

I think the only place we will get anything more that 6 for Gabby is from MON, who might pay 10 and still think he has a good deal.

Just saw that Rangers are talking to Rino Gatusso. He'd be perfect on a seasons contract. Or even player coach. He'd add experience and much needed steel. Also brilliant experience for the youngsters to play with someone of his pedigree.

He's a long way past his best, and has strong playing and family ties to Rangers and Glasgow. Makes a lot of sense for him and them if true.

I saw him play live a few times this season (went vs Bari) and he still looked solid. Definately passed his best but maybe we could get a season out of him. Giving us more options and get him onto the coaching team?

I would not contemplate selling Bent, a proven Premier League goalscorer is very hard to come by and at 28 should be coming into his prime. It's also a hell of a gamble replacing him with Holt, Zaha and Rhodes. Bent is one of the players we should definitely be keeping.

If we build a team to suit Bent, we'd be pretty much guaranteed top 8!

Not necessarily, I have my doubts about Bent, but I think he should bang them in under Lambert, so fingers crossed.

I think Weimann is the future, I think he will be as prolific as Bent but with a lot more ability.

As Ive said before Weimann will be no more than a Marcus Allback or David Geddis. As for Darren Bent he is the real deal ,the record books show it.

David Geddis did a lot better than I gave him credit for. Had a very decent career after he left us. Scored a lot for Barnsley and performed very well across the other side of the city when Sir Ron brought him in.

The absolute necessity is to sort out the defence and import a little more maturity into MF.

Current players who can cross / play set pieces are: Albie, BB, Ireland, N'Zog, Carruthers, GG. Presumably Holman can also do so.

enough already. Is Grant fucking Holt the only player in the known universe? No. Let's move on and discuss other candidates for Emule's vacant changing room peg. Please!

this is the equivelant of sticking both fingers in your ears and singing la la la very loudly so you cant hear what anyone is saying

God's sake, John.

Stop treating other posters' with such contempt just because they don't agree with you. This is not a fact, this is not some overwhelming piece of accepted and obvious information, it's just your interpretation of various scraps of your imagination. There is not a shred of evidence about it, so please stop acting so superciliously about it.
hence the word speculation in the thread title

I have no problem with him saying "I reckon we'll sign Grant Holt". I have a problem with him treating other people with the smugness of an ITK, especially when he's not even ITK or purporting to be. It's unnecessary.

well i'll try again ... a non Holt suggestion ....

Dimitar Berbatov

1 year left on contract, 31.

Currently on 100k a week

might go for bent type money of say 80k a week (weve just saved 65k a week from Heskey).

would give our attack guile playing behind bent with gabby on wings with the zog on the other side.

I'd definately go for that Simon Kjaer. Plays for Wolfsberg. Went on loan to Roma. Only 22. With a chat from Mr Laursen, could possibly land him.

A fine player although he's struggled in Italy, I must admit I thought he played for one of the Sicilian teams?
