From what I gather most of the Norwich team are still on League 1 wages.

If I'm honest, I'd have Holt in over Gabby at the moment.

purely on confidence and a really good argument could be made about ability then I agree. If Holt was 5 years younger in this kind of form he'd be pretty hot property right now. Holt has proved he can find the net given the right service. As much as it isn't a priority and also that I don't think we're after him anyway, if he came on a reasonable two year deal then he'd be solid player to have around.

All we actually 'know' is that he played for Lambert at Norwich and has handed in a transfer request.  And I'd point out that he did that prior to Lambert leaving and quite possibly prior to us even talking to him.

What if Lambert is the reason that Holt didn't get the wage increase and reworked contract that he was after ?

Maybe the board's refusal to cede to Holt's demands was based on the recommendation of the manager

I'd imagine they're based on the fact he's 31 years old and wants a three year contract. The Norwich chairman is no fool and I'd hope we've learned our lesson. The best he can hope for is West Ham on a two year contract with an option of a third, either that or Sunderland but I can't see their chairman making the same mistakes Randy made with Heskey.

He wants that 'one last big payday' and is after it while his stock is probably at the highest it'll ever be.  I don't rate him and think he'll be found out next season, so think he'd be a bad signing, but can't blame him for wanting to go.  If Norwich give it him and then go down, which is a real possibility, he'd be a major drain on their resources, so equally don't blame them for saying no.

He'll get a contract somewhere for about £25-£30k a week somewhere and good luck to him, but in order for that to happen Norwich will need to be sensible about the fee.

Every day of the week.  Gabby has scored 8 goals in 2 seasons...that's Heskey-esque.  Time to move him on.

He was injured for periods of those two seasons and also played wide a lot.

I don't think we're after Holt either.  Reckon PL has got a decent kitty and knows he can buy better abroad.

I don't know if I mentioned it on here but there were rumours at the Norwich end that they fell out during training and it ended with punches being thrown. I would say even without that, signing a 31 year old on a three year deal would be the kind of thing MON would do and Lambert is nothing like MON........

enough already. Is Grant fucking Holt the only player in the known universe? No. Let's move on and discuss other candidates for Emule's vacant changing room peg. Please!

Having just watched the opening game in Euro12 , Kyriakos Papadopolous, the central defender who came on for Greece looks a decent player. Built like a brick shithouse, apparently been playing in the Greek league since he was 15 and he's still only 20 now.

Edit- still got 2years on his contract at Schalke acc to Wikipedia, may need too much to tempt them.

Should be some decent players in the Russia-Czech game. Plenty of technical ability. Hope our scouts are watching and PL.
Just as long as they don't go for the Czech's 30 year striker!

Personally I think Gabby will come good again under Lambert. Houllier or McLeish just didn't use him right. Lambert will want us attacking quickly and will make use of players strengths. On that basis I'd rather have an in form Gabby over Holt. I think he's a massive threat and makes things happen himself, whereas Holt, like Bent, is more service reliant. Motivation is a key thing too and we'll have that now with PL. I think Gabby will thrive again. He's a menace on his day and he's still young too.

I wouldn't mind Holt though. We'd then have 3 decent forwards fighting out for the 1-2 spots. Gabby can also fill out wide.

Can't speak for others but I don't think anybody is claiming scouting expertise by throwing a name into the hat on an Internet forum.
I'm sure we've all watched enough football over the years to know what constitutes a good player, at least in our own opinion. It's a discussion forum and it does exactly what it says on the tin.

Of course, those who work within the game would monitor and investigate a potential signing far more than we would, their reputations and jobs depend on it.

I've read enough bullshit on forums in the fields I actually have a working knowledge in to know that you should take them all with a huge pinch of salt anyway.
I think you've misunderstood what I'm asking Mr Woo.
I'm not saying they (the posters) are claiming scouting expertise all I'm saying is these names (foreign players) come from somewhere. I'm just interested in peoples knowledge of European players, that's all.
I know it's peoples opinions.
My knowledge of European football is pretty poor these days so it would be no use me saying we should sign so and so because I'd read about him in the newspaper.
I'm watching the Euros now so I should pick some out  :)
