I think Lambert may well take it if offered the job.

He knows he probably can't do any better with Norwich than he has done already and they are likely heading for '2nd season syndrome'.  If he's clever he'll have seen what happens to managers like Coyle, who didn't make the next step up when their stock was at it's highest.

I though something similar last night John watching his comments, in the way he was talking about not standing still in football I though he was referring to himself as much as he was Norwich. Plus, lets face it, Martinez stayed out of loyalty last summer, not through the size of the club, and I reckon he would jump now given the chance.

I think he'd take it too, John. I think he recognises the right opportunity when it comes about - didn't hesitate to leave Colchester for Norwich, despite Colchester hammering Norwich 7-1 just a few weeks before. Knew that Norwich had the stronger infrastructure and could go far higher with them, and so it proved.

His mannerisms are spookily similar to MON, and he likes wearing tracksuits on the touchline, too. I'm not sure how similar they are as coaches, though. I've read a couple of good features on him this season, about how he's changed his formation at half-time (going to 3-5-2 in the case I read), which allowed Norwich to take control of the game and eventually win it. So, he comes across as a coach confident to make changes to influence games - in the case of the game I was reading about, I don't think Norwich were losing at the break; he saw the way the game was going and made a positive decision which helped them to win.

We need some of that. Plus, and I think I've said this before, he's one of those coaches who can make a limited budget stretch a long way. I'd rather he had £10m to spend than McLeish had £20-30m.

As already mentioned, Lambert has shown in the past that he will put his needs and interests first and foremost. My Colchester supporting friends still have not forgiven him for going with them to Norwich first game of the season, thumping Norwich 7-1, and then moving to manage Norwich the following week. And they absolutely adored him down Layer Road....otherwise known as the Western Community something of other faceless new stadium. Of course, that could rebound on us as well further down the line if he takes us on and then makes a success of it

He could get us back to around 9th in the short term with £10m, but if we're to have a decent crack again that £20-30m is needed regardless of who the manager is.

Yes, to crack the top six again we'd need those kind of funds. Small steps though first - stage 1, stop Villa being a laughing stock! That'll do for me right now.

I agree.  I can honestly say I would be happy with finishing 9th/10th next season while playing some decent football and a decent cup run.  Its going to take time before we can start talking about top 6 again.

I just want us to go out looking to win matches again, rather than have this fatalistic approach all the time.

Well that’s the price of success, if he (or anyone) does a good job here there’ll be linked with other jobs. I think at the moment we would all take that, we simply cannot have another season under the poisonous stewardship of McLeish.

Indeed.  Are we sorry we signed Ashley Young because he eventually buggered of to Man Utd?

Spot on Paulie. I'm fed up of going to VP expecting dross football, few goals, few points and post match bullshit. I want to get back to being excited come match day

Same here, Villa is a very easy job now. We just want to try to win, Mcleish has made the person who follows him virtually guaranteed to be popular and succeed.

If nothing else comes from this season, you really have to go through the lows to appreciate the highs...(or higher at least). The mere thought of relegation has frightened me to death this season..

To be honest I'd sell Bent.  I think there are better foreign players out there who'd cost half the amount.
