Bolton released  Stephen Ireland didn't even know he was still playing thought he retired

He's still only 32, pretty well the same age as James Milner and 5 years younger than Gareth Barry. Ireland had more natural talent than either Barry or Milner but probably lost his way when large swathes of his family apparently passed away over a couple of days.

Sorry, Ireland was in no way more naturally talented than Gareth Barry.

I think he was. GB worked hard to compensate and SI is just lazy

Good to see all round good guy James Milner start for Liverpool in such a vital match.

He was in the Ipswich side that we failed to beat at their place earlier this season.

Has anyone let Lambert know? Ridgewell can't have too many missions left in him, that one would seem to fit the bill...

Ireland may have had more tricks and flicks, but Barry has composure on the ball, can read the game, has great vision and ability to hit a ball.  A different set of talents, less showy, but Barry has always been way ahead of Ireland.  To say he has worked hard 'to compensate' is just nonsense.

Ciaran Clark scored a super header v Chelsea yesterday.

I always thought Bruce was foolish or just hasty in moving him on.

It was like Elphick brought in or Clark ?!
And i think Samba couldn't lace his boots
Clark all day and night for me in championship

Clark left when RDM was manager.

Apparently, he had a release clause which Newcastle met.
