I wouldn’t let anyone have any time off over the next week or so. They need a right kick up the arse and if any of them don’t like it they can fuck off tomorrow with Martinez

I just hope off-topic keeps my interest because the main board does get very tedious during these times.

Beginning to wonder how we're going to turn this around.

No spark, fight or bite in the team.

We've looked utterly shite in all 3 games. Devoid of ideas  and we've really gone backwards.

3 games  0 goals.

Watch that.

First, how many of our players in the box, how many make an effort?

Secondly, watch the body language after they score. Rogers, clearly could not give a fuck, just slouches off.

There is something wrong behind the scenes here, this isn't just poor performances, this is something worse than that.

I will revise my initial pre-season of seeing at least one of Wolves, Brentford or West Ham being relegated if any of the promoted teams get their act together to now replace West Ham with us as at least they showed they can score and have some fight in them at least.

Damning.

There is a lack of pride and discipline there.   Losing at home 0-2 and conceding that.

I agreed with the starting 11 but this is arguably our strongest side, other than Kamara in it, for the time being.  It didn't work and if this is as strong a side as we cvan put out, we are going to struggle this season.  We are crap at defending, our body language is very poor, we are in the bottom three, deservedly so.  If the answer to the question is Buendia or Lindelof, then we are going to struggle, even though Buendia was busy tonight.  Poor window, terrible performance, too many looking out of sorts and Emery will give us the same old rhetoric in his post match interview.  Bizot is not the answer either.

Tomorrow should be the biggest day in Villa transfer history, this is a really dodgy time, because I see Uni as a very principled man, I think he would walk rather than be sacked, the club need to support him to keep him, or else.

The other thing is, next up, Everton if you think this was difficult that is going to be a nightmare.

The third goal we don't even challenge the flick on. Bizot has no presence he's a competent sub goalie. Konsa and Cash are sulky little fuckers who can't concentrate. McGinn lots of running around but no quality, Watkins looks like he can't be arsed and hasn't woken up yet (somehow his touch is worse). Buendia was alright but for all his urgency there's nothing in dangerous areas. Maatsen is abysmal, scout needs shooting on that one.

All in all, a game that summed up our summers work and when Martinez leaves tomorrow and Costa doesn't sign because it's total made up bollocks there's going to be a lot of angry people.

How on earth are they going to sell tickets for £150 to watch pedestrian football by a load of sulkers and a bit of buffet at half time?

Even if Rogers and Watkins could be out the door, there are absolutely no credible links to anybody who could replace them. Every possible has now been put to bed. Even Asensio, who I was kinda sorta hoping wasn't our first choice, is now tied up. The thought of tonight's squad seeing out the autumn and winter fills me with Championship dread.

They had isolated players like Mateta just barging past 2-3 of ours by the end. We were dead and buried at 1-0, all the huff and puff at start of 2nd half but you knew they were going to get a second to kill it. And tomorrow I work in a depot full of Palace. Thanks Villa. So what happens now?

Seriously… we had an ok pre-season. Ramsey going may have upset the dressing room quite a lot more than we know? Martinez might be exactly the same too. What about those loans out? Can we recall them?

I honestly, genuinely - and very sadly - think that Emery is on a little bit of borrowed time here. We can’t get a tune out of this squad at all. It’s dreadful. No goal threat, a leaky defence and the same cock ups that cost us last season. Rogers looks like he’s back at Middlesbrough and the exciting spark he had has vanished.

There’s this haunting spectre that actually, we look like relegation fodder so far. Very early days, but that needs to change.

The transfer window has been barbaric. The latest news that Asensio is on his way to Turkey isn’t a surprise, nor a shock. But he wouldn’t have been the messiah, our problems run much much deeper than that. 24 hours left of this window and we need plays across the entire board.

We’ve got Europe, we’ve got 2 cups and the league. And a paper thin squad.

I ultimately wouldn’t be surprised if Emery walk's. Not pushed, but walks.

Total and utter bullshit of a summer for Villa. Maybe I need a break from football again. Pathetic Villa. Totally pathetic.

Someone earlier mentioned that we’re going to struggle to sell GA+ at £150 if this form continues. I think we’ll struggle to sell GA at this rate. Something is wrong, there’s been a malaise around the club since the end of last season and it needs shifting.

Has to be something deeper.
You can not just become crap
Although to contradict myself, if you are not constantly, upgrading or improving your personnel whilst others around you are you will fall behind.
Half of that starting team has around a long time and do not have alternatives breathing down their necks, Cash, Mings, SJM, Konsa, Watkins would be looking over  their shoulders if they were at Chelsea.
not sure of the solution in the short term, this season could be a difficult one.

Very possible with Ramsey although I would think Martinez is far more influential among the players you can see he's a players player, as for Emery, the very fact this is being openly discussed now, which just last season you'd have been banned on all Villa media for suggesting such a thing says to me we are already beyond that point.

Tyrone Mings: "It is for us to stay calm and for us to act as professionally as possible. The players that want to be here, now is the time to stay calm. The window will shut and we will see what players we have here."

What an achingly terrible quote.

That was awful to watch - hoping that we get at least 3 players in who can make a difference to our starting 11

We don’t need to buy squad players- we need players who can go straight into the team

I think the most telling thing on Ramsey was Mings quote - something along the lines of “don’t say anything - you don’t know the half of it”

I love Emery and he’s a fantastic manager, but I strongly suspect the team playing the way it is presently is a symptom of something much deeper. And maybe Emery can’t get the tune out of the team because of this.

If they were at Chelsea they’d be cleaning the bogs and making the tea

That is a harsh quote - clearly a lot has happened behind the scenes.

I wonder if the fact we have had to sell has spilt people into camps - of who is open to it and who would rather stay.  Or some bollocks like that.

I've said this before, but losing Champions League is as if we've been relegated instead of qualifying for a second tier European competition. We should have at least been permitted to stand still, but it genuinely is like we've been demoted to another league.

About the only one who deserves any credit is Buendia, otherwise a dreadful display, badly need some quality in tomorrow.

Thought Tielemans and McGinn were ok, as was Mings. We had a decent spell after half time, more positional pressure rather than very good play. Second goal which was totally against the run of play killed it. Konsa completely at fault there, not sure on Bizot's positioning either.

Lack of quality in wide areas very evident, Maatsen particularly but also Cash messed up a good few promising situations. This is meant to be Maatsen's strength! Malen looked completely lost, not sure on his role. No interplay between him and Cash. Rogers stunk it out again with his attitude on the other side.

The team is in urgent need of new starting players, not crap filler like Lindelof. Emery's team that delivered three successive seasons of European football is finished sadly.

The worst performance for years.
Hamstrung by Onana and Kamara being out and by the fact we can’t spend but even so that was awful.
We have nothing up front, absolutely nothing and unless we get someone in to help we are in serious trouble. Where are the goals going to come from? Rogers needs a rest but we can’t afford to so unless we find a shit load of cash from the back of the settee this is going to be a tough, tough season.
From afar it feels like everyone is up for sale but why? Surely we aren’t in that much trouble that we have to sell even more?
Tomorrow is make or break for us, a few loans just won’t do it, far from it.
Something is very wrong here and unless it’s sorted we’ll be in a battle at the bottom.

With the greatest respect, it’s really obvious the problems go further than that. If it had been a ding dong battle and we’d just lost out that’s fine, this is the third game we haven’t scored a goal (4th if you go back to last season). We have big problems, this summer has been catastrophically bad.

That was a very average performance, descending into very poor at times.

First half was once again flat and the players recalled like Maatsen and Malen did nothing to suggest they should have started. We were ponderous and blunt, whereas Palace looked lively and dangerous whenever they broke. I didn’t see enough from Guessand to see what type of player he is.

Cash played their man onside for the first goal, being dragged slightly right because of the wide threat. He also gave the ball away in the build up to the second, but to be fair to him chased back all the way to try to stop the cross. I was more angry at Kansa’s poor clearance straight to the feet of Guehi. It should have gone to row Z. The third was utter shite all round.

I thought we showed more purpose in the second half, a la Newcastle, but never felt we would actually score. I don’t think anybody played remotely well but Buendia at least liked lively and like he had actually heard of passing and movement.

Emery giving off very angry and frustrated vibes. It all feels very, very flat.

Oh fuck. Can't shake the feeling that The Villa Cycle (TM) has returned. A couple of seasons of doing well that turns out to be a fata morgana, followed by a collapse, struggle, binning of the manager and starting from scratch again. I really hope not.

My 20/20 hindsight says we should have spent what we needed to spend this season to refresh and improve the team, and simply take the hit from UEFA. This lot have probably hit the buffers.

We are only 3 games in, but the players looked like they'd played a full season without a rest.

If tonight is the shape of things to come, we could have done better to have cashed in on all the players with value and to have started with a largely different squad.

Other teams have recycled and renewed  but we just have no impetus at all and the contrast with last season already is alarming.

Thing is, if Rogers wanted out, we could have gotten serious money for him. I don’t think Ollie is. There’s nothing in a long career that suggests that - it would have happened in Jan if that were the case. He struggled, but he was visibly frustrated by some of the service. Whatever people think of Ollie I’ve seen nothing to suggest he won’t give his all.

Haven’t read the whole thread yet, but can guess the vibe.
We have gone back 4 years.

We look lethargic, uninspiring and listless.

The complete lack of intensity, particularly in the first half was disgraceful, a continuation of the game last week.
Second half was slightly better, with Buendia the catalyst for about 25 mins before he went into his usual self.

A very special mention for Cash.
An utter embarrassment of a professional footballer.
How you can make a living continually making 5 yard backwards passes is beyond me.
I can’t recall him playing a forward pass more than twice in the first half.
And to cap it all, his giving the ball away when we were getting back into it, finished the game for us.

The malaise the club is under is worrying.
From half time booing, to the ground virtually emptying on 78 minutes, it now feels like a long time ago that we were riding the crest of a wave.

He may miss him off it but Ramsey didn’t play much of the last 2 seasons so definitely not on the pitch. He’s a professional footballer who should be used to players moving in and out.

I've never been so glad to see an international break.

I really think the club have mismanaged the close season. Emi should've have gone after all those crocodile tears immediately. And anyone else who didn't fancy it should have been booted as well. Get the money, fuck them off.
As it is we are neither here nor there and it looked like it tonight, throughout the club.

There is a chance to reset, to start the season again, but it may be that before we see Christmas there will be more changes the likes of which we would've never contemplated in April.

I dont think there is any mismanagement.  I think its the impossible job - i.e. you have to generate x million, and ideally more as we would like a bit of a rejig.

Then - the whole world says - fuck me these guys are desperate to sell due to the rules - and we've spent the rest of the summer trying with (maybe) 10 players who we would let go for the right pirce - but equally 10 players who we would be happy if they were still here next season.

There is not another sport, another industry, in any sector, where you are not allowed to invest in your business.
The utterly ridiculous, arbitrary rules that we are operating under are actually damaging the club and putting us at more risk of financial meltdown than if we were allowed to spend and invest.

That said, no amount of money will turn Matty Cash into an effective full back.

People keep saying Emi should have gone at the start of the window - but where? All we got was a derisory loan offer from ManUre.

Well quite, so I think it’s more to his “team” you either go now (June/July) or you are not going. We cannot be selling/considering selling our main keeper on the last day of the window.

What sort of offer do we think we'll be getting tomorrow, in these circumstances, then?

I reckon around 40.

I'd take 40 + Mainoo on a season loan.

The year we signed Collymore - I knew that he was the wrong signing especially for that system. We bet the house on him and were in a relegation battle until the middle of March and then won 7/8 to get into Europe.

Maybe a 14th place and Europa League as per Spuds is our bet this season

The mood was set before the game when news of Emis departure to Man Ure spread round the pubs and the ground prior to kick off. Whoever was responsible for leaking the news deserves a good slap. Considering the opposition and the hold they have over us it was the last thing we needed.

Well it's Emi that needs a good slap then. He's the one who turned up at The Donkey Pool
Playing fields in Dudley this morning and told a load of footie mums he was leaving. Can't seriously expect to put that on the Wrenna grapevine in the morning and not expect it to be public by the evening!

Emery may walk after tomorrow.

Just a feeling but if Emery doesn't get the players in the next few hours he wants, I think he will walk and after tonight, he will feel very hurt and very embarrassed, he's a sportsman he's competitive, he's chewing bricks right now.
But Emery and his mates have been totally responsible for the transfer business and Emery responsible for the strange team selections that have put us here.

I thought Palace outsmarted us yet again.

Henderson (when needed), Guehi and Wharton were on another level to ours.

Once the goal went in the energy drained and second half we did well when Buendia came on. Thought when Wharton went off Youri and McGinn could impose themselves on the game. Didn't happen The 2nd goal was a proper calamity job - even with a great finish.

Cash/Malen is an accident waiting to happen. No idea where we go from here.

Unai earns his dough now.

A shocking performance; a slow, plodding build up that was easy to defend against and whilst 0-3: flattered Palace there was so little on offer from Villa that it was abundantly clear that something is rotten in the state of Aston.
A continuation of the performance at Old Trafford in May and that truly speaks volumes about rhe teams morale.
0-3 was harsh but Villa deserved nothing more than a draw at best.

Given the general mood around the camp over the last few weeks, and then tonights Emi news, I didn't expect anything else than a defeat. It just felt inevitable.

First half, shite. Ponderous, too many touches, a real lack of zip.

We needed a goal when we were well on top at 0-1 but didn't really look like getting it, whilst the line up looked adventurous, we offered little threat and again looked very narrow. Thought Konsa, Youri and McGinn looked good and Rogers at least tried to make things happen without much success.

I've never been a Buendia fan but he injected some spark and his application and eagerness has never been in doubt.

End of the window cant come soon enough, there is something very wrong, fuck knows why after the season we've had but clearly players have had their heads turned by the money on offer elsewhere. For the first time since UE joined, we'll have a weaker squad than the one we had the previous season, thats a real pisser.

Think this will be a transitional season, but obvious replacements for some of the players aren't evident. We need a win to lift the mood quickly.

I'd have never picked Sheringham (as I thought he was too old at 31) but it would have been a great shout. We signed Merse at 31 after all a year after. I wanted Chris Sutton - had a great season at Blackburn under Hodgson went to Chelsea and bombed

Its a little simplistic, agents will be constantly seeking to understand what the market is. I'm gutted about JJ going but players move on all the time, some because they want to sometime because it suits the club.

All is not well with the club, but I'm not sold on this story at all.

So flat. The atmosphere or lack thereof before, the first half performance dictated by the full backs and the hapless and fearful Cash in particular. A player whose time is now passed but gets to stick around by a now admirable virtue of actually wanting to be here and financial restraints that make other areas more compelling.

A slow waltz, shuffling side step, checking back. Afraid to inject risk and make a mistake. Then with only their second touch in our box they score a penalty. They'd have two more touches before their second, Cash the culprit for the cheap turnover.

The second half was better; Emi responsible for pest like pressing to give us a more energetic feel. The full backs higher,  the ball going into the box, saves forced. Corners won. Not vintage, definitely not fluid, but it was so easily crushed.

We're not in a particularly deep rut, despite the awful start, but it feels bigger. It's not tactical, its strategic. It's not tangible, it's grasping and then somehow knitting confidence that appears as fleeting as fog.

We need a bounce, a dodgy penalty. Will Hughes actually being sent off like he deserved to be. An opponent having to work hard for something, not more low block boredom and good fortune that utterly escapes us. It needs players. Its needs fresh ones, impetus, something that exercises that catastrophic decision from the Argentinian snake back in May which still haunts us. The clear impact that SCR has had on recruitment but that has utterly sapped and depleted morale. We needs this rotten window closed and to draw a line under events. We as fans need to stop thinking about it- saying its unfair endlessly isn't going to wish a new system into existence for our benefit, as much as we would love it too.

Direct result? Are you missing Konsa whacking a clearance under no pressure at McGinn. Cash had half blocked the cross to make it quite an easy clearance to begin with.

Cmon, you know Cash losing it in the middle of the oppositions half trumps Konsa thinking McGinn could control the ball that was travelling at speed whilst bouncing and whilst he had two players on him. (And also Bizot deciding he should attempt to run out to tackle Guehi or whatever thought he had to suddenly run forward from his goal line for.

The worse thing about tonight, is that it felt inevitable. We huffed and puffed for the first 10 mins, won a few corners, that was the grand scale of that half. Much more lively first 15/20 of the 2nd half, largely inspired by Beundia running forwards with the ball, but in truth we never looked like scoring.
No manager is beyond criticism and Emery has to find a way through this, but he surely has lots of credit in the bank. He’s also been dealt an incredibly bad hand this summer. If Lindelof, Guessand and Bizot end up being our business after selling Martinez, Ramsey and Bailey and others becoming subsequently unsettled, there is large degrees of culpability from those in charge of supporting the manager.
I was there till the bitter end tonight and feels like it might not be the only time this year.

I think that easy passes straight to the opposition in the middle of the pitch and playing attackers onside all the time is really helpful if you want to concede goals.
Title: Re: Palace post match BOOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Post by: eamonn on September 01, 2025, 01:00:20 AM
One straw I'm grasping at is that we have not been outplayed in any of our three games so far and we actually controlled much of tonight's game and at Brentford. One of Palace's lads was interviewed after the game and said they are our kryptonite. Guehi will never score a goal like that again, some of his teammates were wondering if he meant it. That little prick Sarr clearly pumps himself up for our games more than any other opponent. At least there was karma with the cheating cvnt injuring himself during his elaborate dive which he was duly booked for.

We badly need a Plan B when we go behind against a team happy to play on the counter. Emery being schooled by Glasner yet again sticks in the craw but our philosophy of slow-slow-quick is what we did for large portions of the game and he said himself that we followed the gameplan.

Agree Eamon, I don’t think we played that badly, but we are playing without any threat or menace to the opposition.
With our continued capacity to concede easily , we know what’s coming as the results suck any semblance of confidence out of the group.
We are in trouble.
