The most predictable thing last night was that when we started to actually look like we could do something in the second half, they were going to score again.

That’s what worries me.

There has been some seriously poor man management over the summer, clearly. Contrast, for example, their player almost certain to leave today, being one of the best on the pitch last night, with ours, sat at home watching antiques roadshow.

I get that the Martinez situation is difficult, but that’s football, and that’s why the people in charge are paid to manage it.

Easily the worst thing and the most worrying too last night was the dreadful body language. There’s something properly wrong.

One thing that amused me a bit - Mings looked fine carrying the ball forward and played a couple of pretty good balls, one to Watkins and one to Malen but Mateta completely bullied him with his hold-up play.

Pau came on and his first two touches were both beating Mateta to headers and then spent the next twenty minutes misplacing nearly every one of his passes.

Something for their respective factions to enjoy.

The only good thing about bringing Pau on was that it meant Captain cockup went off.

The odd occasion we looked slightly dangerous was when we zipped it about with incisive one touch passing, or when we went long so why we did it so sparingly is beyond me.

Struggling to think of a worse start to a season both on and off the pitch. And I go back to the Saunders era.

The year we signed Collymore - I knew that he was the wrong signing especially for that system. We bet the house on him and were in a relegation battle until the middle of March and then won 7/8 to get into Europe.

Maybe a 14th place and Europa League as per Spuds is our bet this season

Same. I remember ringing in to Talksport saying it was a mistake. They asked me who we should sign instead and I said Sheringham (before he went to Man Utd).

I'd have never picked Sheringham (as I thought he was too old at 31) but it would have been a great shout. We signed Merse at 31 after all a year after. I wanted Chris Sutton - had a great season at Blackburn under Hodgson went to Chelsea and bombed

I saw Sheringham playing as an attacking midfielder who could contribute goals and assists as Draper had had a very underwhelming 96/97. That was my logic as a teenager back in the day. And that it would complement what we had.

Just watched highlights on motd. Gueyhe's brilliant goal was a direct result of a missed pass by Cash. That's 3 out of the last 4 games he's cost us a goal with sloppy passing. He really isn't good enough at this level.

Direct result? Are you missing Konsa whacking a clearance under no pressure at McGinn. Cash had half blocked the cross to make it quite an easy clearance to begin with.

Cmon, you know Cash losing it in the middle of the oppositions half trumps Konsa thinking McGinn could control the ball that was travelling at speed whilst bouncing and whilst he had two players on him. (And also Bizot deciding he should attempt to run out to tackle Guehi or whatever thought he had to suddenly run forward from his goal line for.

Cash was on the grassy knoll too.

Let's not get silly. Cash isn't good enough and that's my opinion. His passing is often wayward and that's why I bought it up. He was in a good position tonight to put in a cross. Once again he didn't look up and played a ball in behind our players putting Palace straight on the attack that led to a goal. Others also failed to do their job right  especially Konsa as you say but it's Cash giving the ball away that put us in trouble when we were in a good position. He doesn't look up when he crosses the ball. He did it at OT which ended up with Emi seeing red. He does it a lot.

Cash has directly contributed to major goal conceding or game changing cock ups in 3 of his last 4 games. He is a liability.

More than one problem and I don’t like individual scapegoats, its too simplistic, but I’m largely done with Cash. Been a good servant to the club, but past his sell by date a year or two ago. I’d honestly rather have Konsa there and put in some serious work on a Mings Torres partnership.

None of our defenders are top class Cash, Konsa, Mings, Pau, Digne and Marston every one of them could do with an upgrade
We all have our own particular defence player scapegoat but they are all culpable everyone of them not good enough for a consistent top four level

Yes, we’ve done it once in the last three seasons, but that was because we had the best goalkeeper in the world saving more shots than anyone else in the Premier league
Simple as that

The defense needs an upgrade which we’re not going to get under the present financial restrictions
And the fact that our recruitment of late has been shoddy

Not sure I agree, Digne and Konsa are pretty solid if unspectacular.

I reckon our owners have become totally disillusioned with the EPL. Not a level playing field.  Wouldn't surprise me if they packed their bags!! This mentality could easily spread throughout the club and might explain our current plight.

The difference I noticed last night was the time we gave them on the ball in dangerous areas compared to what they gave us

Also the running behind them into space was few and far between.   We are certainly lacking fluency and energy at the moment

I think Glasner has said before that we don't play with width so Palace can pack the centre with strong players, wait to win the ball and hit us on the break with fast forward passes to strong quick runners. Given the recent results, I think he might have hit on something.
