I honestly think and fear that morale within the club is on the point of collapse. The players are seeing the dressing room being emptied basically to comply with a Cartel protection racket and no adequate replacements coming in. It must feel like they are the remaining passengers on a sinking ship and judging by our performances so far that's exactly what we are. Our replacements yesterday spoke volumes for how thin the squad is becoming. If we don't bring in some decent buys today - and that simply isn't going to happen - we are stuck with this team until at least January and by then I fear we could be down.

None of our defenders are top class Cash, Konsa, Mings, Pau, Digne and Marston every one of them could do with an upgrade
We all have our own particular defence player scapegoat but they are all culpable everyone of them not good enough for a consistent top four level

Yes, we’ve done it once in the last three seasons, but that was because we had the best goalkeeper in the world saving more shots than anyone else in the Premier league
Simple as that

The defense needs an upgrade which we’re not going to get under the present financial restrictions
And the fact that our recruitment of late has been shoddy
Not sure I agree, Digne and Konsa are pretty solid if unspectacular.

Like I said everyone’s got there scapegoats but it’s a collective defensive malaise, none of them come out particularly well

You like Konsa, I think he’s the worst of the lot
Like when the third went in yesterday, positioning nowhere on his knees crying like a big baby soft as fuck and as slow as fuck because he’s like a rabbit in the headlights when he’s got the ball zero ideas of what to do with it

But like I say they’re all culpable no one comes out with any credit

😄 We must be the only two regarding Konsa.

Digne looked finished at Brentford too. Might be ok in a flat back four with no requirement to overlap.
Gutless….cowardly…you love a bit of hyperbole

They both actively avoid physical contests, not sure what else to call it
Poor defending

One thing that I don’t remember anyone mentioning. Surely, we have someone in charge to look at psr etc. Whoever it is should have seen this ratio of players wages v income, putting us into the position where it seems we are the only EPL club struggling to do any real business. On top of that, the club announced the Europa League package prices before the draw was made. Look at the opponents we have drawn at home and then justify the prices the club are asking. Disproportionate I would say.

I think thats why the 20% discount bundle came about.

Championship defence still, what could possibly go wrong.

I think the 20% discount was a pure PR exercise. Even at that discounted prices, they are far too high, considering the quality of the opponents.

Only Mings is in the defence from the Championship though, with McGinn being the only other one from that time I believe. If you mean because we bought Cash and Konsa from the Championship, we bought Mings from a prem team didn't we?

I might be wrong but the previous  CL bundles were set well before the opposition was announced.

Genuinely the first time ai've seen us play this year. We've been busy so not followed online and with such poor results and no goals we haven't bothered with highlights.

I was actually pleased to see us start positively and take the game to Palace but as soon as we gave away the penalty all momentum was lost.
2nd half we started similarly and I thought Buendia gave us a bit of zip and inventiveness that we'd been lacking.
Then we gave away the second and rinse and repeat.

Overall I only noticed one brief appearance of one touch passing and mostly it seemed every player needed at least 2 touches. It felt slow even when we were moving forward.

I thought there was often a forward pass there for Konsa when he received the ball from Me nhs but he never seemed to see it.

The match stats show we dominated possession, had loads more corners and shots than Palace, but were blunt. We both had 4 shots on target - 3 of theirs went in.

Just with a few hours away from that, I feel like Emery's tactics are often right on the wire and require a committed mindset from the whole team. If one player isn't at it, the whole shape falls away and we're ineffective and actually prone to falling apart. Add to that disgruntled players for whatever reason and low confidence, maybe even defiance and the system falls over.

All that to say, I don't think the problem is Emery so much as players who are either gutted, or being spoiled brats because <insert rumour of choice here> ______________________________________________.

I'm not sure the way forward but somehow someway Villa need to come together.

How we play is based on a system of total control, players taking passes under pressure and dragging the opposition all over the place. The team goal vs Arsenal was probably the high point of that system.

When teams sit back and don't close us down - letting the central defenders pass to each other, and with no worry about pace stretching them, then the opposition find us easy to play against.

It’s the biggest problem with modern football that the players who are the least comfortable with the ball and the lowest technical ability are the ones who have the ball more than anybody else on the pitch
